working on my first power conversion(reimport)on a Doctor Who WPC changing from 220v to 110v. what all is nessessary for this conversion and what parts are involved? my buddy told me it was just a conv. molex plug(or jumper) on the transformer.

my DW blows the power circuit breaker fuse(5amp) on box under the right flipper and assuming that it needs the jumper since it doesn't blow when i unplug the transformer. also, i read about possibly blowing the thermistor and varistor but they look perfectly fine!

thanks in advance!!!

My addams family is a 220 to 110 conversion. The connector from the line filter assembly on to the transformer plug on mine is
AC lines in on pins 1 and 7
A jumper from pins 2 to 3
A jumper from pins 8 to 9

Transformer plug to transformer is
pin 1 black
2 black
3 white/black
4 white/brown
5 white brown
6 brown
7 white/orange
8 white/orange
9 orange

This is from my addams family schematics for 115v for transformer # 5610-12825-00

ok cool! that's what mine has as a pinout also. thanks for the reply!

i have a 5amp that is blowing there and i read that it needs to be 8amp for 110v so i am goin to try that....otherwise i assume it has to be a bad varistor(even though it does look fine) or the transformer is shorted!

something smoked awhile back when they turned it on, but not sure what??? bought this at an auction and some buddies of mine smelled and heard something pop, so im not sure to prior doings.....

All other things being the same, as the voltage goes down, current must increase for the same power consumption, so the 8 amp fuse for 110v makes sense.

It is very, very rare to have a WPC transformer go bad. You might want to check your work again. Also, I have seen WPC power driver boards and WPC CPU's go bad and blow fuses for no obvious reason. If the PDB has been previously worked on, it could very well have problems.

changed varistor and with the correct fuse! looks like i need a tranformer!!! anyone???

Disconnect everything from the output of the transformer and turn the game on. If it blows the fuse, the transformer is bad. If not, start looking past the transforrmer.

Exactly what I did....now assuming a bad transformer! Outputs from xformer unplugged it blows....unplug the xformer from line filter and doesn't blow fuse!

I don't know why but looks like, from the schematic, that the brown and orange wires were reversed on xformer plug side. My tech told me that that prob put too much current onto xformer and finally shorted it!

well, problem solved! it was a bad WPC transformer! as stated before(above), someone had to have swapped the brown and orange wires on the xformer side of the plug and finally blew the xformer for whatever reason. the replacement i found had the correct wires in the correct holes in the molex connector. SUX!!!!

anyways, thanks for the help! also, can a xformer be saved at all or should i just chuck it?
