First pin

This was my first pin, and it was my gateway pin. It led me to 5 years of collecting somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 pins, but never more than 4 of them at any one time. By 2016, all my pins were gone, and I haven't owned one since. Sometimes I miss them and sometimes I get asked about them, but it's been nine years and I've been just fine without one. I have thought about purchasing one a couple different times, Godzilla, King Kong, new Jurassic Park or maybe the new TMNT, but ultimately I decided that I just can't afford them anymore.

Finally, someone calling it what it is... a GATEWAY pin... its like a gateway drug... nobody means to get hooked...

your title even says it all "first pin"... not "our one and only pin"

You and the missus will find yourselves discussing places you can put a couple more... things like, "well, we don't really need the dining room table", etc...

I'm sure there are many here that would say, they are like Lay's potato chips... you can't have just one!

If you're looking at new pins… the best 2 that I have played in a minute… the new Harry Potter pin from Jersey Jack and Evil Dead pin from Spooky. Both are A+ games. Didn't care much for Jaws if I am being honest.

"GATEWAY pin"....now there's a new term for us...we will beware lol....Seriously our arcade will only accommodate 1 pin and 2 more vids ....space and cost will definitely help us...we will heed the warnings lol...thanks man :)

HAWT!!! And your wife ain't bad either.
LOL! Hard to believe that picture was 32 years ago, time definitely flies!

She's amazing, I'm a very lucky guy, ....and she's totally into the arcade journey! When we first got in the hobby she was floating the idea of when we're older opening a little hometown type arcade with cheap pizza n' stuff. We sure do appreciate all the comments and advice.....thanks guys!

Mark my words.... once the addiction sets in hard, ya'll be having discussions about where you can make more room to get your fix...

You know you've become PinheadJunkies when you reason out that it's OK to park the new car out in the harsh weather so you can start that second row of pins in the garage...

Evil dead is probably the best value in pinball of the past few years, at the original price, they are going for more now since it was an actual limited run. And its a lot of fun.

harry potter is over hyped and not a lot of fun (typical of JJP pins) and gotta love that AI art. (Not)

Have you played Harry Potter? I played it at SFGE and it was a blast. It is the only Jersey Jack game I can say I have liked though. As far as the art goes… I am pretty sure there wasn't any AI art as they used Mina Lima for the art and I guess they do all kinds of graphic design stuff for all things Harry Potter. To each his own though.

Absolutely LOVE my Evil Dead! Youd be hard pressed to find one now though, unless you wanna py $15k for one with no animated topper.

Incorrect. Mina Lima only did the book art cabinet version.

The playfield art was done with ai. The dragon has three eyes. JJP is fixing it. its a mess.

Yes I played it. Walked away on ball two. boring.

Any pin designed by Keith Elwin will be a great choice if you are only going to have one. Jaws is super fun and a great choice. Jurassic Park is also phenomenal and my personal favorite as I own one. While the premium versions are cool they also have more moving mechanical parts that tend to break or require more maintenance. Depending on your comfort level with servicing the machine sometimes less is more so the Pro Stern models are super fun and generally require less maintenance in the long run. Play multiple games and buy what is most appealing to you.

I would always recommend going out on location and playing a game before deciding to buy it. Play as many different games as you can and figure out what you like. You may like the theme but that doesn't mean youll enjoy playing it.

Twighlight Zone is definitely a consideration.

Our only pin is Evil Kneivel, it's old school and in my opinion, one of the greatest pieces of Pop Art ever made.

Shit this thread is still going lol! I considered the matter done lol, lot of passion for pinball here at KLOV! Thank you everyone!

Thanks, yeah our minds were made up between these two originally posted in the thread...and Jaws won out....Glad to hear! I don't think we would be interested in a pro version......you bring up an important point to what I was asking as far as servicing pins....It will be a learning curve but I can do it...I'm NOT set up for SMT soldering as much as I would like, more equipped for classic vids/vectors/through hole soldering......I love working on games and have some restore/refurb/repair threads here, my list of games is in my sig.......Jaws was a lot of fun for us in Cidercade...a lot of info in the thread...but yes we tried this and more while we were there...,man thanks!

Agreed, yes we definitely have as posted earlier... this is good advice, we appreciate it!

NO, it's JAWS LMAO! I'm with you...ONLY ONE haha.....no space for more than that, and unless a Leprechaun is gonna pop out with a pot of gold during all this("Top o' the mornin' to ya Laddie, gold falling out ya ass!" LMAO), we can't afford much more than that....honestly I don't see how MF afford 10 pins, all Premiums...almost 10 grand a pop...that is F'IN CRAZY!! God bless y'all and more power to ya if you are able, seeing those collections is awesome....Honestly I have to pinch myself looking at my humble vid collection, having an arcade game in your home BITD you had to be rich mf haha....we are definitely a unique breed here, perhaps desensitized to how crazy and awesome it is to have these in our homes.

I feel you on the art...Haunted House was one I played BITD at the Gold Mine and I was drawn to it for it's amazing Backglass that I thought it was so cool looking, and the AWESOME music and 3 level playfield...such a cool looking/sounding game....pins weren't as popular then as vids were but they had one in the back...It's pretty reasonably priced and so cool looking...I love that one for sure...I've been hawking that one for a while and saw the speech upgrade...it definitely cool AF......there can be only one though...it is what it is haha. TY!
