I picked up my first pin a few months ago, a fairly decent looking Tri Zone. Aside from one of the displays missing two digits, it was working fine when I picked it up. Since then it's given me some significant trouble, and I hope you guys would be able to offer some insight on how to fix it.

The current issue is that the game doesn't want to boot up. Here are the issues I have noted:

The player 1 display shows "1487 1"
When it was working, half of the lights in the center of the playfield will not light up
When it was working, the displays would randomly flicker
A previous owner appears to have modified the 100v line to the displays, splicing in a direct line to each one

What I have done:
Reseat all connections in the head
Had the solenoid driver board rebuilt, as it had lifting traces & burns
Replaced the fuses in the head

I was checking the voltages, but I'm suspecting that my cheapo meter is bad, as it was showing 135 on the 100v line. Replacing this is my next order of business, but after this, I'm not quite sure what to try next. I have seen references to replace the connectors, but I would like to confirm if there is something else I am missing.

Thanks!

Your game is booting into audit mode. This is caused by the batteries being removed and reinstalled, or bad batteries, a bad connection on the battery holder, or maybe a problem on the CPU which could be due to corrosion from old batteries. To get it out of audit mode, turn it on, off, and back on quickly. It should then boot to attract mode.

If it keeps coming up in audit mode that means you aren't getting battery power to the CPU to keep the settings retained in the games RAM.

Thanks for the tip - I had rebooted it a number of times without success, but this time it got out of the audit mode (had the coin door open this time). The battery holder looks to be somewhat questionable, so I'll be planning on getting that fixed. After that, I'll have to figure out why the displays are flaky- One problem at a time tho!

Thanks!
