First Pin purchase -Funhouse

The paint is indeed unfaded on the body. Very dark. The playfield - that is probably the worst part. The area above the flippers became worn at one time and someone added a chunk of mylar over it. Also has the typical wear spot from where the ball gets kicked out . At this point it's simply trying to maintain. The damage can't be reversed ;)
I also can't afford to drop another $1000 into a new playfield. Maybe next year.

Fireplace - it's for looks. It never gets used and never will get used. I plan on rearranging the basement in the near future but since the corner was the largest unused place I decided that'd be home for the time being.

real of fake fireplace? If fake, tear that worthless hunk of crap out. That looks like the fake brick that was in mine.

There was a gigantic fake fireplace in my basement when we moved in with an electric heater fake log pile. I tore it out (in tact and sold it for $100) and gained a whole new wall space. Just think, you could fit 3 more games in there! :D

Just an FYI if you are even thinking about getting a new playfield you want to buy it now if you can. Once they stop with this current run it will be quite a wait to get one and there is no guarantee that they will produce them again. I'm been on a waiting list for a playfield since September now and it is still going to be a few months.

I can understand not being able to drop that kind of coin on a playfield though, they are a lot of money. I'm sticking to buying them only for games I intend to keep.

I've found a couple places that carries these playfields new. Both are right at a grand. When you mention it being a long while till "they" produce them again .... exactly who are you referring to? Thanks.

@Shardian - yeah I know that fireplace is such a space eater. If I planned on staying in this house I would certainly pull it.

When I saw the $1000 price tag I was thinking, "Dear Lord good thing I picked this up for the price I did." ;)
Thank you for the info. I browsed their site real quick and don't see them listed? Odd. I realize you said to call just suprised it's not listed is all.
So if a person were to purchase a new playfield - would a person be wise to have it clear coated? Or is this a debatable item where clear coating affects game play?

I'd maybe read about installing a new playfield first :p It's FAR from easy or for the faint of hard. It would be a MAJOR job, especially if this is your first pin. I've heard good and bad things about clearcoating..if I got a new playfield I think I'd want it clearcoated for sure.

I'd say enjoy it, I mean it's your first pinball machine why create headaches for yourself so fast, you know?Unless you have done this before or know someone who will do it for you and help you along the process. Yes by all means BUY the playfield if you can, then just hold on to it so when your ready to swap pf you will have it already.
Hey, now go play some Pinball. Enjoy!

The clear that ships on IPB playfields looks nice. Only super picky people (like me) would get it cleared again.

That has always been a problem with IPB, they don't list everything on their website and that's why you have to call.

It is a major job but well worth it. IMHO I'd pickup a playfield and sit on it, enjoy your game for a while and then maybe swap if the game is a keeper. The great thing about buying a playfield is you can always get your money right back out of it. I guarantee you would have zero problems reselling your playfield.

Here are some pictures of my Addams playfield:

Exactly- listen to what is being said. Some people just collect the playfields even if they dont even own the machine, because they never know if a machine one comes up for sale it has a beat playfield so it will be a GOOD price and they just so happen to have a NEW playfield that they have had in collection. It's a win win situation. Plastic sets are another good item to collect for pinball machines.

Metahugh - great pics. This pic in particular:

It really points out just how uneven the clear coat is. I can see why you're not a fan of their cc job. But it's better than having none at all would you agree?

Steelhourse and Tomdotcom - I hear exactly what you're saying! There is so much crap on these playfields that it is indeed a major undertaking. If I buy a playfield I'll sit on it till next winter when I'm cooped up and have nothing better to do ;)
At this point it's cosmetic only. Big deal right? I did pony up and buy a full set of cliffy protectors.

Thanks for all the opinions guys!

The clear is pretty thin. Its laid down properly thank goodness so I would have no problem recommending installing the playfield AS IS. I just prefer it to be a bit shinier so I will eventually send out my playfield to be clearcoated. TAF is a long term project to find... one of these days I will find one so I'm in no rush.

Another thing to note: My TAF playfield is what they call a "Second". It has minor flaws here and there... for example if you look at the pic you linked to above you will see little white specs everywhere. That is one of the flaws. My playfield also has an extremely minor screening issue. (see if you can find it!! :) ) Factory playfields back in the day had the same type of issues so this is nothing out of the ordinary.

They have what they call a "First" which is the best quality possible. Those are more expensive, around $750. Personally I don't think its worth the extra money for a First. Plus my camera accentuates the issues, in person the green looks nice and smooth. Call me crazy but I like the white specs, it makes it look more like grass :)

Funhouse is a must have if your only going to have one or a few pins in you collection. Its my favorite pin of the 15 I have...definitely one to keep. Very rare to find one with sides that are not faded...although you can get the replacement decals from Illinois Pinball. I actually have a set but no time to do the replacement at this time. I have basically redone the playfield so it looks great other than a few very minor wear spots..My playfield is original and Its in very nice shape so a few coats of wax and it was good to go...

For 1000.00 that is a steal for one in that condition.

You're asking a greenhorn to find a needle in the haystack .. but I'll try anyway.
The only thing I can see is the artwork appears that it was applied a smidgen too far forward causing several hole "misalignments"? But I look at some other areas and the artwork lines up perfectly so it can't be misaligned.

Anyone else care to play this game heh

Also - yes the flash always makes things appear much worse than what they really are ... but the area I pointed out really does appear to have much less CC on it. I guess if they came from the factory that way as well so be it.

the pics look rad! This was an amazing find. I finally figured out why I never saw the ad. The seller listed it as "Pin ball" rather than one word. How is my CL search engine so worthless to not pick that up??? ugh. Anyways perfect score.

Believe it or not the lines around the holes are correct. There is a slight registration issue here:

See the tips of the roses? It should be completely red and not white at the tips. Its very minor IMHO.

In a weird way I like it like that. It almost gives it a hand painted look.

I agree, it's along the same veins as the white dots in the green. It's a reproduction afterall and the quality is very good. I will end up getting mine re-clearcoated and it will be even nicer.
