I just acquired my first pin. Been looking on and off for ~3 months now. I see someone list a Missile Command and in just a sliver of the picture I see a Funhouse backbox. I emailed him and asked if he's considered selling this. He responded with," Funny you should ask it's on CL right now." WTF?? How did I miss it. Funhouse was spelled fun house and pinball was pin ball. GAHH!!!! He had it listed for $850 in excellent condition. I immediately responded and said, "Consider it sold call me to arrange a time I can pick it up tomorrow." Received and email stating already had a whole slew of people wanting to come take a look and two guys were calling him first thing in the morning. I thought to myself, "Self I'm NOT going to lose this one." I emailed back and said, "I've been trying to give the wife a Funhouse for her birthday because it's the only pin she's ever played and the only one she likes. My wifes happiness means more to me than a good deal …. So if it takes me offering you $1000 to seal the deal then that's my offer." Seller responds with, "Call me." It's 10:30 at night and I call the guy. Super nice guy and he said, "It's yours no problem" and we talked for awhile. The next morning (Friday) he calls my cell. And I think, "Oh shit here we go again he's going to pull the plug because someone else offered him more money." Nope. Said he forgot his kid had a basketball game. Sheeewww. Anyway I met him at 9:30 Friday night and drove to his house. I want to state for the record this is the first time I have ever offered more than the asking price. I hate it when people screw me out of a deal by doing this but he hadn't locked in a deal with someone else at this point.
Excellent condition? Nah. I'm a newb when it comes to pins but my idea of excellent was way different than his. The machine was filthy, the playfield was filthy and when powered on it would clack clack clack clack. He knew ZERO about this machine … great because I know jack shit too. So we removed the playfield glass and his youngest kid kept sticking his hand in the coin door and trying to grab stuff in the playfield and I was standing there shitting my pants expecting that kid to screw something else up. Surprisingly enough the pin body is in excellent condition. The header is prolly more like average shape.
Anyway I said screw it I want it and grabbed it and away I went. I spent most of yesterday replacing burnt bulbs (total of 7). Found two bulbs that the diodes had broken away – soldered, the damn trapdoor wouldn't work. One wire to a solenoid had broken loose. Fixed. Bottom of the cabinet was filthy – shop vac'd. The underside plastic guide/rail ball return whatever it's called was god awful dirty inside. I yanked it off and pulled about a pound of freaking gunk out of that. I waxed the shit out of the playfield. Rudys head was missing one screw so the back side of his head and the other side had the wrong one installed. Found both screws laying in the bottom of the cabinet replaced (obviously didn't get them tight enough because this back piece of his head shifted backwards after some game play. The batteries were starting to leak thankfully caught in time and no board damage occured. Cleaned contacts and replaced batteries. The clack clakc was nothing more than the right side flipper leaf was making constant contact - adjusted and problem went away. The playfield condition I would rate a 7, still needs new rubbers as the current rubbers are dirty and a few are ripping. Today I'll be fixing Rudys head again and the back legs were adjusted a mile high which I will adjust down.
Sorry for the long post ….. here's the pics
