So tonight will be the first time I've had many friends at once over to the house since we moved here. And since I only have three cabinets right now and two of them were purchased since we moved here a year ago, it will also be the first time I've had more than only one or two friends over at a time with all three cabinets running.
So I guess that means this is my first party where I hope to see my games get some real playtime! Fortunately, I think I have a decent line up picked out for the people who are coming over. As a reminder and for those who don't know me, I have a SFII cabinet, a Neo-Geo 4 slot, and a Skill Crane:
The new has new buttons and a new CP overlay, but I really wish I'd gotten around to putting my NOS overlay on the SFII. It's still all bondo at the moment
So for the girls, I think the Skill Crane will be a hit. Most of them have been over and seen it before, and wanted to bring their own stuffed animals to try and "win." I think they will be playing that the most.
The SFII will obviously be the hit with the fighter fans, which there are two or three of those guys coming tonight. The SFII cab also substitutes as my general JAMMA cabinet, and right now houses a NAOMI (I think it has Power Stone in it right now), several CPS-1 games like SFII (duh) and Knights of the Round, as well as two CPS-2 games: SF Aplha 3, and Super SFII Turbo. The question here is which game to run in it for the night since changing them out requires pulling the cabinet out from the wall and all that. In other words, whichever game I decide on will likely be the only one that runs in the cabinet tonight. I also have X-Men and Testris PCBs I could run.
I think that I will likely run Super SFII Turbo in it tonight just because it is a SFII cabinet (albeit a World Warrior cab, but whatever). Having the fighter game in here lets me choose something other than fighters for the Neo Geo as well. Regardless, I'm still on the fence as to if I should run a SFII game here or something that more people might enjoy like X-Men or Knights of the Round (brawlers).
So on to the Neo. Again, under the assumption I run a fighter in the the fighter cabinet, right now I've decided on a puzzle game (Bust-A-Move), an action title (Metal Slug X), a shooter (Blazing Star), and a sports game (Neo Turf Masters). If anything, I may replace NTM since that's more of a long term play game, as opposed to a quick few minutes at a time game. The others I think are good choices for a party like this and should satisfy most players. And of course, the Neo is much easier to swap games out in since it opens from the front. So I suppose if someone really wants to play KoF or something like that, I can swap it in. I'd run my multicart in it, but that cart doesn't like my 4-slot for some reason
Anyway, thoughts on my setup for a party like this? I suspect about 10 people will show up, most of which are gamers other than one or two of them, so I think the games will be a hit (I hope!). If you think I should swap my games out for others, let me know.
My Neo collection is here, and my JAMMA PCBs are here, so you can see what my options are.
