I was in denial. When I got (and paid a lot for) my first cabinet (Jungle King), I said "I'm not like them, all my (one) games work AND look nice". Then I got my Tron and I said "I'm not like them, all my games work". Now I have a non-working Asteroids with damaged wood that I picked up off CL for $50. I AM one of you now. The cool thing about the pickup was that it was literally around the corner from the house where I grew up and my parents' still live.

The person I got it from said someone picked it up for her at an auction, but she didn't want it because it doesn't work - it's missing the game board. The stickers on the cab have the date "11/27/09", can anyone confirm if they're the same stickers used at the Coney Island auction last week?

When I first plugged this in and pulled the interlock switches, there was nothing. Then I noticed the wires came off one of the switches so I reattached them and now something clicks when I plug it in and the marquee lights up. No deflection chatter from the monitor - is there a spot killer on the Electrohome G05? Also, no static from the monitor so I don't even know if it's getting power. Is there anything I can check to see if the monitor is working if I don't have a test rig? I checked all the fuses on the monitor and power brick with a DMM and they all seemed fine.

I'll pick up a PCB for this sooner or later, but right now it's in the queue after I restore Tron's art.

The cabinet itself is pretty clean on the inside, but it is missing the game board. It looks like everything else is in there though. Coin door is damaged but I can probably rebuild it with parts I got from copious.
Does anyone know if the original bezel and marquee were plexi or real glass?

The monitor cleaned up nice. Has almost no burn, can't really see it unless you shine a flashlight on it. I rebuilt the coin door last night since I had all the parts. I might make this my next project instead of Tron.

We were all in denial at first, if that makes you feel any better... :D

It's hard to refrain from picking up a $50 cab. Believe me, I KNOW...

Plexi

"Does anyone know if the original bezel and marquee were plexi or real glass?"

They were both plexi. The monitor has a spot killer on the deflection PCB. There were 3 different monitors used in Asteroids depending on when it was manufactured.

Thanks. I did notice the spot killer LED was on, it's a G05-802. Do you know if the neck would glow if the spot killer was on?

Neck

The neck should glow either way. It has a seperate 6.3vac power coming from the brick in the bottom of the cab. It is the same power for the coin lights. If you have coin lights but not neck glow therecould be a bad solder joint on the headder pins on the deflection pcb. The headder pins are a good place to start your monitor repair if you have the power you should at p100.

Yeah, my coin rejectors light up. Thanks for the tip, I'll take a closer look tonight. If I get stuck, I'll post in the monitor forum.
