I bought a Shadow Force PCB not long ago and the game is quickly becoming one of my favorite beat-em-ups. Here's my issue. I can go into the game's test mode and test all buttons, this game uses six buttons per player. All buttons register as off or on.

When I start a game, the JAMMA+ buttons do not work for any of the characters.

The buttons do allow me to start a stage, but that's it.

The game board is very clean, but has one replacement EPROM. The title screen says it is version 3. All IC and ROM tests pass.

????

I guess my fix is going to be hunting down SFIIWW as I also have a harness for that.

shadow force is a 2p game with only 3 buttons.

unless i'm completely wrong and so is arcade museum.

otherwise i would have said make sure your kick harness molex connector isn't backwards where it connects to the board.

so if both i and the museum are wrong and there is a kick harness and 6 buttons, check the molex connector at the board.

feel free to cross reference with the manual

located here:

also while in test mode all buttons should be in the off position, if any are on without touching the button you have it wired up to the wrong post on the cherry switch. (i doubt this is the case tho as you have more games than i :D )

Yep, the database is wrong, six per player. All register correctly in test mode; ie I push them they turn on. I double checked the JAMMA+ harness with the manual before I posted here. The only thing that isn't connected is the ground pin. For fun I tried shorting that to ground and it had no effect.

The replacement EPROM is at location IC34

Here's hardcore gaming 101's page on the game:

Stumped unless it's that EPROM..

ah so you have an american version, that article says that the Japanese version only has 3 buttons.

so odd that they work in test mode but not in the game :(

i didn't look at the manual i linked i'm just basing this off other games with harnesses.

I think I might have figured it out...sort of.
It seems I have a 3 button Japan based control scheme on an USA region game board. I can possess enemies with 1+2 instead of using the sixth button like the USA control scheme.

So I guess I have a spare JAMMA+ PCB connector now...
