First pic of Stern's new game released:

ironman-large.jpg

My first thought: Borg reworked his Austin Powers design...the ramps are the same, Iron Monger character rises from the playfield instead of Dr. Evil...War Machine kickback replaces Fat Bastard, Whiplash magnet replaces scoop. Looks like a 2nd magnet in front of the rising Iron Monger toy...

I like Austin Powers...it's a fun layout, just too easy w/ way too many Multiballs. Hopefully this playfield w/ some nice software rules will make it a cut above AP.

Well fron the stand point of a new guy wanting to get into pins, that would be awsome as there would be no fixing up and it looks pretty slick. That and I really used to like reading the comics when I was a kid.

I'll be the first to raise my hand and say, "Not really into it" from first look.
I'm not an Ironman fan which probably doesn't help matters either. The artwork to me is bland as well as the playfield doesn't appear to be real exciting either. I hope my first reaction is wrong beings Sterns the last of the mohicans and they need to stick around.

It just seems too plain.. I like Iron man and all, but I see nothing special about it.. The pinball industry is just flushing down to toilet. Is it like they are trying to die out the arcades?

as pinball fans, we better ALL hope that these new STERN's do well.....they're the only kid left on the block, fellas.

I really did enjoy that iron man movie. So I got to wonder what kind of sounds and animations this game will have. The open looking playfield to me does not bother me but then again I've not played very much pinball. I would very much like to get to try this.

Problem is there aren't many arcades left, and operators hate pinball since they don't make as much as other games, and are hard to maintain.

What Stern is doing on a game like this is making it relatively simple for ops to maintain (not a lot of crazy toys and moving parts), and easy for new players to understand.

As a fan of brilliant designs like Simpsons Pinball Party, LOTR, Spider-Man, and Family Guy....seeing Iron Man as a cost-reduced Austin Powers certainly doesn't inspire me to want to cough up the big bucks for this game.....however, it will all come down to software. Austin Powers actually had a pretty fun layout, just easy/boring/multiball heavy software. If this game's a bit deeper and has interesting goals, it has the ability to be a really fun game. I hope some local operators get it, I'll definitely play it! However, had it been a truly unique 100% new game, I would have been more likely to buy one as a collector....

Im with Rare on this. I really like Iron Man, and I am really hoping the Pin is good fun, though the looks side doesn't seem very inspiring to me :( It looks really bland, but looks arent everything, so the game play may still impress. I really hope it does, because I am a pin die hard, and I don't want Pins disappearing into the history books.

Sometimes less is more, and if the game is really fun to play then it won't matter how it looks. It might not be the most over the top pin out there, but I don't think it's THAT plain. Could be worse...like this....

Well, I must add that I am one of the lifelong Iron Man fans that have been waiting for this one to come out, and had been planning on making this my 1st new pin purchase, but Im highly dissapointed by the pictures. I was expecting a lot more pizzazz, especially for $4600

I'm in the same boat. Thats a lot of money for that game. I will wait to pass complete judgment until I can play it. I love the cabinet and backglass but the playfield is a bit open for my tastes.
