Welp, this was my first "fix" from the lot of 14 games I recently acquired. 8 of the 14 games were non-working with the other 6 in various stages of "working".

I present to you... Scramble.

She's in pretty damn good shape overall. The bezel looks awesome as does the marquee. The CPO could use a bit of work. The side art i'd put at 8/10 on one side and 7.5/10 on the other... the Electrohome monitor is working but can use a cap kit... luckily there is very little burn-in on the tube.

The marquee blows florescent bulbs in about .5 seconds...I learned this by going through not one but two bulbs (damnit). I think i am going to get a replacement fixture from Walmart/Home Depot and drop it in... evidently, I am guessing, the transformer is bad on the one that is in there.

The game is fully functional and quite fun! The sounds are SOOOOOOO much better than the 48-in-1 crap... I'd forgotton how kickass Scramble sounds.

Here are some pix...

scramble

Wow wtg that looks really nice.

I would have a completed my Restore on My Scramble if i could find a complete working Harness.

Scramble came out nicely Frizz. Scramble for all of its funky game play has such a sweet design on its marquee. And of course, who doesn't like a little porn in their bezel?!

I don't think that chick's holding a pepperoni stick!

Frizz, the 'eye' is a patch that manufacturers put in plywood when a knot hole is visible.

Oh... i guess I should probably mention what was wrong with it and what I did to fix it?

When I plugged it in all I got was a white raster screen on the monitor. Good... at least I knew the monitor worked. After a few meter readings it was determined that the linear power supply in the cab wasn't outputting +5v... after weighing my options and getting a shipped price quote of $53.00 for a switcher conversion kit from Steve at arcadeshop, I decided to build my own harness. I picked up some .156 male 24 pin break-away headers from Bob Roberts and cut it down to 10 pins. A little solder, some zip ties, and about 30 minutes of my time and I had a switcher conversion harness for the stock Stern DC input.

While I knew I didn't have +5v going from the PS, I didn't know if the boardset itself was working, so with a little trepidation I plugged the cab in. I was very pleased to see the game come up.

I then replaced the plug (10 of the 14 games I got have broken off ground pins)... vacuumed, cleaned, scrubbed, Windexed, and this was the result.

...and why in the heck would someone put an EYE in to the top?

From Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plywood:

"A": Highest grade quality available. Can be defect free or contain small knots, providing they are replaced with wooden plugs (the fillers having a "boat" or an "American football" shape) or repaired with synthetic patch. This grade may contain occasional surface splits that are repaired with synthetic filler. The surface is always sanded and provides for smooth paintable face quality.

Frizz, are you keeping this one? Quarterarcade sells repro cpo's for this if you are.

Good time to bust out my Scramble vid... That's if you need some tips on taming those nasty missiles;)

Thas some good playin' there Bry. I've done the sweep low to the missiles but its those damn skyscrapers that kill me off quick. You maneuver around em like you've done it "a few" times before.

At 6:25....Good to hear you muddering the familiar words I say too often when playing any arcade game.

Good ear, not so young jedi:D

Yeah, the skyscraper bunkers are my biggest weakness in that game.
Much easier on the Konami boardset version:cool:

Now I see why you seek the oh so black box and Konami pcb..... that scramble ship must be a V12...it drinks fuel like my game hauler.
