First game you bought and when

My first one was a 4-player X-MEN in a converted TMNT cabinet. This was about 3 years ago. I drove 8 hours to pick it up and paid about $350 for it. Not too bad.

?4? Years ago bought a Time Soldiers in a Galaga cab off ebay around $150.00 2nd game was Choplifter bought 2 years ago. Now I'm hooked!

1st cab was a Black Tiger for $150 from an operator.
That was about 6 yrs ago. Still have it and still love to play it.

My first was a mortal kombat in a taito jungle king cabinet in 2004, got it for free, was a bad conversion but it worked, barely. That started the finding and calling of arcade shops, (managed to find one in my area, they are very scarce around pittsburgh) and that led to me buying roadblasters, alien vs. predator, race drivin, battletoads no monitor, surf planet no monitor, cadillacs and dinosaurs, and nba jam, and a free gutted poker machine cab. Got everything for $450. Had seven cabs on the back of my utility trailer, and almost lost race drivin on the first bend. We had to stop every mile or two after that on the way home and tighten up the ratchet straps:)

A poor Rastan in a Willams cab for a hundred bucks. I got it back in 98' and still have it, and I guess for my first purchase (from a local operator too) I didn't get too burned. I have since bought another game from the same guy and might buy a few more in the future - so foot in the door type thing also.

My first game was/is a Street Fighter II conversion.
It's a converted Track & Field cabinet. It looks hideous, but it's Street Fighter II, and I love it anyways.
I got it last week. That's right, I'm a total newbie.

Definitely overpaid for it, my girlfriend and I were just so excited by the prospect of owning our own Street Fighter II machine that we jumped on the machine when the opportunity presented itself. We paid $400 for the machine (which, aside from being ugly as sin and in a converted track & field cabinet, works quite well), and even the $400 was talking the guy down from $500.

Now that I've done more research, I realize that we probably paid way too much for the machine. But I'm still greatful for the learning experience and glad to have it as it hass really sparked my interest in owning more machines and fixing up the machine we do have.

Yup... SFII's in T&F cabs are pretty common actually... I think you overpaid, but compared to a lot of people, I'd say you did pretty well for a first cab (most of those conversions I see go for $150-$250). The ones I feel bad for are the people that get really taken on the popular games (like Galaga's or Ms. Pac's for $2k+).

Cosmic Avenger upright, back in 1983.

My Dad and I were at a charity function and we saw it and I begged him to bid on it. He agreed but made me pay off 1/2 of it month-by-month from my allowance (awesome deal I thought...and I remember it taking forever to pay my share).

I forget what we bid but I think it was around $500. Anyway I don't think anyone else bid on it, and we won.

I still have this game today...

My first one was Space Encounters in 1989. A friend found it in a nearby town and I traded it off him. He got it to work but didn't do any cosmetic work. The first thing I fixed on it was the strobe light. Talk about a distraction. You shoot something and flash, flash, you're half blind. My second game was a Robotron 2084. It has always been my favorite.

You're not alone. My friend bought a SF2 in a beater Super Pac cabinet that was oooogly for $450 after talking the guy down from $500. I bought a Final Fight in a Phoenix cabinet for $275 (down from $300) the same day from a different guy. We overpaid but we were total newbies and had no clue what a good price was. At the time, the prices were good for us because we got what we wanted. We just wanted to see if it was possible to buy actual arcade games and it was. Five years later, its easy for me to see that we overpaid but for us at the time, it was a good deal.

First game was Asteroids back in 1991. Bought it for $200.00 and banged and bounced it down the twisty stairs from the guys third floor (attic) apartment.

I left it behind when I sold the house - the new owners had no problem with that and I just had too much else to worry about at the time.

Fourteen years later (last year), I purchased my first game with the intent of collecting and restoring. It was a Donkey Kong, complete but rough and non-working. This machine cost me $100.00. Likely your first purchase or two should be your worst economically but, looking back, I think this was likely one of my better deals. With about $400.00 total into the DK, it looks and plays real nice. I wish I could say the same for my POS Space Invaders. LOL

Hmm.. that would be Twin Eagle in 1989. Bought it from an Aladdins Castle for i think, $250.00. Still remeber that day, Paid too much but man was i happy.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. Remember how much an Atari 2600 cost in 1980? They were around $200 and now you can buy one for $20, but your Twin Eagle is still worth as much or more than you paid for it. Besides it not about how much it costs, as it is about how happy it makes you.
