First game you bought and when

My first game (Vigilante in a Joust cab) came from a thrift store too (Salvation Army in Iowa)... my friend bought it there for $10, but he ended up moving a few weeks later so he gave it to me for helping him move.

First I bought was a Victory Road for $200 on ebay.

Where are these "Thrift Stores" you guys are shopping at?

Probably the same ones you shop at, but you have to either be lucky or determined. For about 2 years I was a thrift store junkie. I went to 5-10 thrift stores a week. I still go at least once a week. In 6 years I've only seen 6 to 10 arcade games, most of them not worth remembering much less buying. I bought those two cocktails and a pinball at thrift shops. Shopping for arcades and pinballs at thrift shops doesn't work all that well. Shopping for clothes and other "stuff" and picking up games that happen to be there is alot better.

I got my Centipede cocktail at local bar for $400. That was before I started hanging out here or went to an auction. The guy thought that it didn't work right but it has worked great for me.

My first was Vanguard right around 1984. It was $100 and from an arcade in Napa where I grew up that was shuting down from the crash. The arcade was right across the street from Napa High School. I really wished that arcade was still there when I went to that school.

Do you know of a hamburger stand called "Tommy's Refresher" or something like that? Its near Yountville I think, great burgers!!!

Oh and my 1st was Arkanoid off ebay for $200 about 3 years ago.

Wow!!! The first game I bought was Rastan! This was the game that began my hobby of collecting and restoring arcade coin-ops. Rastan used to be my favorite game ever. I used to ride my bike down to the local deli and spend $10-$20 a weekend playing that game. The best part of that was the butcher in the deli loved that game also so him and I would take turns and try to beat the game. customers would always get a little pissed off because his priorities changed when I was there! We would be like two little kids and no one else existed when we got in front of that game.

I was bored at work one day and all of a sudden the soundtrack of that game popped in my head! It has been like 15 years since I played this game. I did some research online and found one for sale. I couldn't believe it! I never ever thought of buying a game and keeping it in my home! I got it and when i turned it on and played it I almost died!! I never felt so happy! All the wonderful memories came back and the best part of all....I didn't need to put quarters in it anymore...That was the start of a wonderful hobby I love to this day.

Capcom Bowling playing blind in a nasty black Pac-Man cabinet for $25 at Superauctions. It was in the first row too. Actually it was the second game they sold.

First games I got were Streetfighter II and Championship Sprint, in 2001.

I (over)paid $350 for the Street Fighter, and $100 for the CS.

I later resold the Street Fighter for the same price, I still have the CS.

Mine was a Centuri Phoenix in 2002. Paid $180 for it at an auction. After that alreay spent >$150 on it making it look better and adding a Pleiades PCB to it. Now I finally got a NOS CPO to make at least the control panel look mint.

I know it is not a very popular game but I like it !!

I used to have a Phoenix but it had no side art. The CPO and marquee were not in very good shape either. I really wanted to get repro artwork for it but nobody was making it at the time. I finally got frustrated and sold it. Then a few months later, I see repro artwork on E-bay

First Pin was a pretty nice Target Alpha in about 1982 for $100 from Westwood Arcade in Los Angeles. First Vid was a real nice Defender in about 1982 for $350 from CA Robinson in Los Angeles, CA. At the time I probably overpaid a little bit for the Defender but sold it later for $300 after playing the hell out of it. I purchased other games after that for dirt cheap but those were the first two I ever owned. I was about 14 at the time.

My parents purchased a mint Asteroids for me for X-Mas in 1982. I was 11 years old. They paid 75 dollars for it. The first game I bought was a Galaga for 400 dollars in 2000. I was buying a game a month for a year or so. Wow I am just thinking of all the hours spent locating, driving, repairing, restoring and enjoying. What a great hobby!!!

MIne was a "down town" in a Phoenix cab. It is a over head beat 'em up that uses SNK rotary joysticks. Its a pretty awful game. I have since picked up a heavy barrel PCB and marquee for it.

First game was actually 3 games... home use Omega Race, Spiders (dedicated) and Zaxxon. $300 for all in December 1994.

first game was a restored pac for $500, then a free mario bros. the mario was in a video store i worked at, and some kids had ripped the harness off the cp, so you couldnt't start a game, only watch the attract mode. 10 minutes spent downloading a manual fixed that.....

well, technically the first game i bought was street fighter II, but the day before i bought that i got 9 cabinets for free

My first game purchase was an Eagle Centuri for $10 or $20 bucks. Saw it out in a guys yard in a snowstorm so I stopped. He must have just put it out recently cause none of the wood was damaged but all the buttons were frozen his wife said it just started making gibberish on the screen so I took it home , thawed it out and did a cap kit and we were back in business, game on!
