Bought a Donkey Kong Jr cabinet with Sega's Wonder boy game installed and working. As much as I enjoy Wonder boy I want DK Jr back in its home.

1. Will this Wonder Boy monitor work if I install DK Jr?
2. Due to DK Jr being a vertical display can I just flip the monitor? (that's if this monitor will run DK Jr.)
3. Need to find a good YouTube video mapping out what each component is in the cabinet.

From eastern Iowa so any help would be appreciated.

1. As long as it's still the Sanyo monitor, then yes.
2. Yes, provided you have the hardware needed to rotate the monitor to vertical orientation. Vertical mounting requires 2 brackets, 2 bars, and assorted nuts and bolts. Check inside your game to see if you have an L-bracket mounted to the wood shelf below your monitor, and the top bracket spanning the inside of your cab above the monitor. IF those two bars are present, you can rotate the monitor back. If they're missing, you'll need to purchase replacements, or fabricate something on your own.
3. What components are you interested in? If you talking about wiring, you're likely going to have to pull out the entire wiring harnesss and replace it with one designed for Nintendo boards. Is the original Nintendo power supply present in the bottom of the cab?

Shoot us some pics of the inside rear of the cabinet with the back door removed and we'll be able to assist your further.....

Thanks smalltownguy. Will get pics after work. I am guessing no on Nintendo power supply. I hunted everywhere for Sanyo on monitor. I think it's a 21+ inch monitor. I doubt DK will work on it.

That's a 20EZ monitor you've got there.

You've also got the original Nintendo transformer block feeding the needed 100v to the Sanyo.

Someone else has removed the Nintendo power supply, and installed another PS for the Wonder Boy game.

Can't tell whether or not your wiring harness is JAMMA or not, but by the looks of your later-added power supply transformer and switcher, I'd say it's not JAMMA.

I can't find Wonderboy in the KLOV database, can anyone else?

Thanks, John. Not sure why 'wonder' didn't bring that game up for me. Whatever.

Ouch on the non-jamma. Lots of re-work here to bring this back to a DK JR. Good thing going for you is that you have the original monitor, that's a plus.

Just need to get:

  • PCB
  • full wiring harness solution, including power, upper and lower controls, and coin door harnesses
  • Nintendo power supply (or switcher and adapter)
  • bezel
  • marquee
  • populated control panel
  • artwork
I'd budget a good $500 for this project to do it correctly....

I personally think Wonder Boy is a far superior game but each to their own :) Looking forward to seeing some progress on the project.

I always played Wonderboy each time I went to the arcade but I gotta get DK jr back in its home. If I come across sega cabinet I wouldn't mind having Wonderboy in my collection.

**update**
Sold Wonderboy parts to pay for DK Jr parts.

Just purchased these 2 cabinets. (pole position is complete but a mess, frogger is missing the board.)
