First game in about 2 years... Asteroids Deluxe Cabaret!!!!

So I haven't had any games since I sold my Asteroids and Donkey Kong at the beginning of last year. I hated doing it, but I needed the dough. Since I live in a tiny apartment I've been avoiding Craigslist, because I don't need the temptation. Well... I was bored at work on Friday and saw an ad for this game- asking $149. I got it for a little less, not working, but in good (and all original) condition. No wire hacks or anything- it's fairly clean with no water swelling and only a few chips in the wood grain.

Right now it plays blind, and it blows the 2 5A fuses on the deflection board. I did make some progress though after reflowing all header pins... I had intermittent neck glow and now it's nice and solid. Anyway I'm planning on a bob roberts order including:

AR board rebuild, G05 cap kit, new big blue.

Anyway here's some nice pics, enjoy!

Nice pickup. I really like these cabaret cabs. I was lucky enough to pick one up earlier this year. Fun game with a small footprint. - Barry

I so tried to get this game today. Looks like you got it first. I knew I should have called immediately yesterday instead of waiting to check with the wife first.

If you decide you don't want a project I am sure I can deliver you something working for it.

Awesome game at a great price! Check the chassis-mounted bottlecap transistors to see if they're shorted, and make sure all the pins in the molex that plug into the PS are seated correctly.

Couple interesting differences vs. mine. Is that plexi over the control panel? Your CP looks different vs. http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/yodafrommn/IMG_3819.jpg

I can't tell if it's different out of the factory or if part of the overlay was removed and the rest bolted in place.

Your coin door is a bit different, too. Mine has two coin counters on the hinged side instead of one on the lock side. And what do the wires that go into that blue switch(?) above the lock do?

Finally, the model / serial sticker is weird. Mine is mounted on top instead of the back, and has model "298 02" & serial 710.

I think the usual buttons were black cones / white push, but that stuff could have been swapped out.

I like it. I prefer the style of the bigger cabs for sure, but it's great for people who don't have space.

Unless you have a Berzerk...

Man that is so cool. And in very nice shape to boot. Congrats on a great score!

I like it when I come across a game that hasn't been screwed with by an op or previous owner.

Cool little game. Nice save.

Thanks, yep I'm excited.

Yeah I read that, that is a cause for the transistors blowing. I just placed a $72 order to Bob and I getting new transistors and mice insulators. Hopefully that cures it.

Looks like someone Plexied it. I haven't taken it apart yet, but someone looks to have cut out part of the overlay. I have no idea why though. A replacement CPO is probably in the future, but it'll be a little while yet. Getting it working is my first priority.

Looks to be one of the weighted tilt switches. I had something similar on my full size Asteroids that would make a beep sound whenever you opened the coin door while playing.

It looks like it has a serial sticker applied over another. Yeah I've usually seen white, but I kinda like the silver look. They definitely need to be cleaned up a bit.

That serial number is sticker is covering over the Ireland one. That's an imported cabinet. The coin door and the CPO gave it away. The instruction set on the print has a gap in the text compared to the ireland version.. I'd be interested to see the other serial number sticker below it. Nice score and yours in in way better shape than mine.

Your eyes were better than mine. I did a short comparison between Phoenix arcades repro and mine and couldn't tell. The coin door is definitely different than other ataris I've come across, at least on the inside. Those coils are something I'm unfamiliar with.

Most old Atari coin doors have the coils..no need to worry about that-- you can always disconnect them.
On the Phoenix cpos.. They were originally done by Rich then a second run was done by Darin. I as well as a few others got the ball rolling on getting the cpos started. I don't have time to bump up old threads but you can do a search on my username history and find the many threads. Once you get it working, try and get the sideart from Darin... Looks really awesome.
I'll never part ways with my AD mini.. Too much time and sweat went into getting mine going. Nice grab.... I'd like to have that :)

Yeah I'll definitely throw on a new CP0 in a few months, they do look good. I saw that Atari Scott had one left for $40 in an old thread, and wished they were still that price. But for now, this order will do me...

1 22/44 Molex edge connector - $6.00
1 Assortment of Spacers and standoffs - $3.50
1 Asteroids Deluxe PCB Cap Kit - $6.00
1 GO5-805 15" B&W X-Y w xsistors - $12.00
1 Tube thermacote - $5.00
1 T03 micas - $1.00
1 Atari "Big Blue" Capacitor - $12.50
1 Atari A/R or A/R II-01 Repair Kit - $9.00
2 6800uf50volt radial for XY monitors - $10.00
1 Leg Levelers - $4.00
USPS Priority - $9.xx
Total - $78.00

Nice grab. I was bored the other day and looked up the St. Louis craigslist since my boss is living there now. I saw this exact game and almost sent him a message to go grab it. Pretty good price for an uncommon game.. Good luck with getting it back up and running.

Good to see you are back in the game. You know, these cabinets fit just fine in the restrooms at hotels. This comment would mean more on the other site. Why didn't you post about this there too?

I thought about it, but it bugs me when I have to read duplicate comcast threads and whatnot. I'll probably post more when I finally get it up and running over there. The good thing about having one machine, is that I can concentrate all my time on it.

I'm really surprised that I got to it first, considering how infrequently I check it. Not a lot of good classics pop up at reasonable prices around here. I've regretted selling my old Asteroids so I was sorta wanting a cabaret cabinet to replace it. I was about to say that the multi kit couldn't come fast enough, but on a limited budget I can wait several more months and be fine.

When I initially called the guy he said that he wasn't even available till Monday evening, and that someone already put in an offer on it. Thinking it had become an auction, I asked him "for less than the $149?." Thankfully he said yes, and then he asked me what I'd give him for it. So I said "$125?" Which is what I ended up paying for it. I paid $80 for my old Asteroids and had just under $300 into it after getting it working- so I didn't want to overspend on this one, considering what I know it takes to get them running.

To complete this thought about the CPO, there were two originally AD cabaret CPO designs/versions. My original CPO is the other version compared to what was reproed. Small differences and nothing major.

Great grab! ... How the heck did you resist shopping CL for two years? I wish I had that kind of will power.

It's not that I didn't look occasionally, but I tried not to, to avoid temptation. I wasn't really good spot to buy a game for a while. So I guess no money and no room = willpower?
