I may be poised to pick up my first game—a DK—and wondered a few things:

1. Can you swap out the board for a Donkey Kong Jr board fairly easily?

2. Mikesarcade.com does the Double Kong, being a modified Jr board. Can this fit into an original DK? Anyone have it? Does the sound thing bug anybody?

3. Anything in particular to watch for with a Donkey Kong machine?

Thanks

I'm not super familiar with board compatability but I do know these type of cabinets very, very well. Biggest thing is the artwork on these games, if any of the art; CP, sideart or bezel needs to be replaced, it will be pricey! It's worth making a DK look pretty but it can get expensive.
Good luck!

Most DK's are a 2 PCB set, as well as all Jr.'s. In this case, yes they are interchangeable. Some of the early DK run's used a 4 PCB set, I'm not sure if those are compatible or not.

A quick way to tell which one you have (short of looking inside the cabinet) is to look at the title screen. I believe if it doesnt say "Nintendo of America" on it, then you have a 4 PCB set, and if it does then you have a 2 PCB set.

Good idea, though I quite enjoy a bit of vine-climbing.

I say it's fairly easy to swap out a DK boardset for a DKjr, There was talk of a switcher being made to be able to keep both pcbs mounted in the cab, I am looking for that to be the solution for me.

I would be interested in your findings.

They're not available as yet. Supposedly soon, but nothing is set in stone.

I'm also waiting for this solution, wanna triple up with D2K, DK Jr., and DK3 (all w/ high score saver kits installed). Too lazy to pull the game out from the wall when my AADD ass wants to switch from DK to DK Jr., and as cool as a Nintendo row would be there are too many other games I want to use that much floor space.

This would be the ultimate way for me to go ^, I'm not really looking at adding any additional cabs.

Hopefully this will happen and not be put out on a beta for a select few to test and make all of us salivate for years....Yeah I'm looking at you Asteroids multi-game kit....:(

More than likely you will need to cap the monitor chassis and sound board on the sanyo if you get a DK as well. Unless you get one that has already been capped of course. Once repaired, should be SOLID.

DK and DK Jr should be swappable regardless of which version of DK you end up with (2 board or 4 board) as DK junior has an edge connector and the multiple connections that the 4 board DK stacks use. DK 3 does not have the multiple connector headers, unless you modify the board.

Big thanks all round.
