Was advertised as non working. Got a good deal on it and all it needed was a 15 amp power supply. bling bling.. Now what to do with this beast..

I remember playing this when I was in High School. The wierd button design always drew my attention to it.

I don't know if it was a defender, maybe it was. There is some slight burn in on the screen that looks like some sort of race car.. but you know what, that could easily be the defender ship in the center of the screen.. hm.. no way, just looked it up.. it's definetly not the shape of the defender ship. monitor says 1981 as well. I've attached a pic of the burn in.. Sorry, I took this before wipeing the screen down so it's quite filthy in the photo but you can clearly make out the side scrolling car shape..

That burn reminds me of Bump N Jump. (That's probably not it, though)

sure looks like a later Defender in your pictures (newer style Coinco door.) i wouldn't trust the monitor to tell you much about the origins of the cab; it easily could have been replaced at one point.

and even if it is original, burn only tells part of the history. maybe it was converted pretty quickly and has been through a few games since then. i have a Moon Patrol cab that was Metamorphic Force when i bought it, but it has screen burn from Hellfire and one other game i can't identify.

(the cab is now a Jrok Multi-Williams, which is totally awesome.)

The monitor may not be original and has burn from another game.

I thought about that.. and that is probably the case. The cab definetly looks like defender but I do wonder what the heck racing game that used to be. Looks almost like some of those old B&W type race games but since it's a 1981 color monitor it couldn't be.

Relief pitcher = my first ever arcade purchase. I got it and a Top Gunner.
The game play in Relief pitcher sucked, and the buzzer/horn every time a new batter came up drove me nuts!

I still have the cabinet though - it was a converted Xevious.

The burn-on looks like Sega's Monaco GP. Notice the darker "bands" above and below the car image. I believe that's the side of the road in Monaco.

Kyle

It does resemble that except for the fact that sega monaco looks to be a verticle mount and this one obviously runs horizontal

The monitor could have been rotated when it was swapped...

Ah.. why the hell didn't I think of that.. I think the mystery might be solved then. I'll declare it a former Monaco monitor put into a Defender cabinet converted to a Relief Pitcher. What a calamity..

Space Ace

Mine was a dedicated Space Ace in 2003. Then, when I went to pick it up in San Jose, the guy selling it had a Dragon's Lair and a Thayer's Quest. The TQ was HUO. He gave me all three for $3500. Which I thought was a steal at the time. Especially since I had won the ebay auction on the Space Ace for $1850 or something like that (can't completely remember).

True

A trick in case anyone didn't know... if you really want to see the burnin clearer, throw some blacklight on it - it makes the burnin really pop.
