First Ebay now GameStop

Good luck with the venture SoCal, it sounds like a promising strategy! I think I would go for it as a gamer.

The prices they get for trade-ins are somewhere north of what GameStop offers, and the prices they pay for another game are less, because the company keeps its overheads low by not operating storefronts.

This is WIN...Gamestop are a bunch of morons.

I can buy a brand new copy of Red Dead Redemption GOTY at Walmart for $19.99, but Gamestop wants $37.99 for a USED copy of even the original release...and get this, will give you $10 in credit for your used one.
It's not like this just happened either, the game has had Game of the Year displays up for months now.

There is no Red Dead Redemption Game of the Year edition that I'm aware of. There's a Red Dead Undead Nightmare that has all the DLC on a disc, but it doesn't include the original Red Dead Redemption.

Yeah it's actually just a big deal about being GOTY, and has a sticker on it stating as such.
Wasn't really my point though...

I noticed in the article that they talk a lot about digital distribution. If the industry does go to digital distribution I won't be buying any more games. If I can't own a physical copy of the game, I don't want it.

As for the companies charging more for games in the first place because they don't get money from games being resold, that's bull. They charge more because they know that people will pay it just so they can be first to play the game. Look at the Halo games.

Best of luck with this SoCal. I hope, for all or our sake, that the industry sees your solution as a viable alternative the digital distribution and other Gamestop workarounds. Keep up all the great work.

Cheers,

Bob

Exactly! It's all about greed. And DLC has opened the door for people to access things easier but also get fleeced easier. How many people have had to pay a second time to download a game or some sort of DLC because it was lost in some way? Way too often I'm sure.

I've been burned that way with digital distribution of music that I've lost in HD crashes, laziness, etc.
However, for games, I really like the Steam model. Buy once, install as I please. Now if Steam goes belly-up, that would suck, but for now, I'm loving it.
