Well, I pulled the trigger and picked up a SF II pinball. I have very limited experience with pins, and this is really the first true DMD machine I own. (well, I owned a Roadshow for 48hrs, but I'm not counting that). I have done a clean/shop on an EM pin recently, and owned a SS pin that got beat to heck because I didn't really inderstand ther maintinence that goes into all of this. (I now know better..lol)

First, I am considering going over the SF II with LEDs everywhere. Has anyone else done this to a SF II before, and can you give any pointers? I don't see any "kits" available, so hearing from others about their experience with them would be great.

Second, does anyone know of any custom mods that can be done to an SF II? I would like to play around and custom this one if anyone has any leads on things that can be done.

Finally, I am considering doing a "alternate" translight from here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Street-Figh...406?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item337dca4a5e Does anyone have any experience with these, and will they be printed on plexi of some sort or will I have to mount a mylar film to a piece of plex that I need to find.

I know some people aren't fond of SF II, but it is a keeper for me. I have a lot of nostalga for Street Fighter, and really want to find a matching SF Arcade for my collection to go with it. Thanks in advance for ANY info you all can provide.

I'd say all 3 of those translites look terrible and are inappropriate to your machine because they are from vanilla street fighter IV, no SF2.

I assume your pin is 100% working, ramps lifting as they should etc?

There is a recent thread on pinside about LEDs on sf2, I would check there for ideas

Thanks, that's why I wanted a second opinion on the translights too. I thought they kinda looked cool, but wanted to know what others thought. I'm not a fan of the goofy art on the original translight (the faces look distorted, but the playfield plastics and art look great..), but can't seem to find any other options.

Yes, most everything is working, and the couple of small things that aren't, I feel comfortable attacking. Most of my questions are "cosmetic" based, nothing technical (fingers crossed).. :)

Thanks for the lead on the SFII LED thread, going to go hunt for it now and see.

So, just a thought... It seems as if the biggest gripe about this particular machine boils down to 2 points, the artwork and the play-style. The "Stop-n-Go" playstyle is different, and while some don't really like it, others are drawn to it and actually enjoy it since it IS different than most other pinballs.

This leaves the gripe about the artwork. Most everyone seems to be in agreement that the problem stams from the HORRIBLE backglass art, and that the playfield and cab art are acceptable and even enjoyable. So if the problem is the backglass, why hasn't anyone tried to repro a new translight that might help bring the game from bottom of the heap to something a little more desirable? Do most people really feel this isn't even worth the effort?

I have had several of these in the past and had enjoyed it. I always thought it was a decent challenging game. System level 3 boards are built like a brick s*it house. Rarely have I had much go wrong ....except one thing ....if your testing dot matrix displays make sure you turn the game off before switching them. I did this once and blew out the chip on the dmd driver board. Luckily PBR carries them.
