I've posted a few bits and pieces about this already, I'm just putting this all in one place now.

Back in early September I picked up a The Pit cab and some Arkanoid stuff from cleverlyj to start my first build project.

And for everyone who hates to see Arkanoid thin out dedicated games, this cab had Arkanoid in it already, but it was taken out before I picked it up. At the time, this cab was best condition cab I had and it seemed like the right choice for the build.

Loosely put together:

I bought a 19" WG 19K7203 off ebay. It was set up for a horizontal mounting. The easiest thing I could think of was to make some adapter brackets.

Monitor in cab:

Quickly realized I had a slight problem. The back of the monitor frame hung out the back side of the cabinet.

I've got a spare Centuri back door that I will be cutting a hole in and probably putting a cover over like on the back of Gorf.

With the age difference of my monitor and the Arkanoid, the harness didn't have the right connectors for the monitor. Grabbed the part numbers for the mating connectors from the monitor's manual and went to Molex's website and requested some samples of the connectors and pins. They sent them to me for free (even more than I requested), didn't even have to pay postage.

I can't remember what cabinet cleverlyj told me the CP came from, but it would have been a huge pain in the ass to get to fit nice. Luckily, I had a crap Pheonix cab that had a CP that would fit perfectly in this cab.

The Arkanoid CPO was in really bad shape. Thought about buying a new CPO, but thought I would try making my own. The idea of doing it right (printed on a lexan label) got shot down when the price quote came back at $380. So I cropped the bottome few inches off and printed it on my inkjet on photo paper. A buddy of mine snagged some 3/32" lexan from his work for me to cover/protect the paper CPO. The Pheonix CP had 3 CPOs on it before I stripped it clean of everything and repainted it.

My new Arkanoid CP:

You can't tell in the pic, but I've got the spinner screws under the lexan.

This is where the project currently stands. All that's left is installing the CP, fitting the back door, and wiring (a lot of rewiring, the harness is ugly) the game up. With my old lady only letting me work on arcade stuff one day a week, it has taken a while to get it this far, but shouldn't take too much longer to finish up.

I think that is coming along nicely. Arkanoid is a fun game and those ugly woodgrain cabs are plentiful. Nice job of making what you had work for what you wanted.

In working order.

Spent most of the morning yesterday re-wiring the cabinet. Wow, most of the "splices" were made by wrapping wires around spade terminals, no crimping. After wiring the majority of the cab up it only took a little tweaking to the monitor to get it playable. Next I'll be getting the marquee light working and swapping out the coin door for one in a little better condition that I have. I'll probably try to find a better bezel for the monitor sometime down the road. I had a spare back door from my junk Phoenix cab that I cut a hole in to accommodate the monitor. This game is really fun to play and it's nice to have that sense of accomplishment after having what used to be just a pile of pieces (junk according to the old lady).
