Firepower

For a working pin......it really does nothing, to be honest. Think of it more as a repair part instead of an upgrade.

It's a workaround if you have a problem with the three 512byte bipolar rom chips. If you need to replace them they are almost impossible to find, and it's just as hard to find somebody that can burn them for you. They were already close to being obsolete technology when the game was in production, but it was the only way at the time to get enough ROM space for the rules set in Firepower.

Previously you could do the 2732 'combo' ROM chip, but that involved some tricky board modifications. It worked, but it was ugly and not easy to reverse. I just hate using jumper wires more than is necessary. That, and you're still stuck with three original sockets that probably have to be changed anyway.

This turns it into a simple plug-in affair. No board mods needed, fully reversable. I recommend that it's still a good idea to replace the CPU socket, or you could solder it in if you want.
