So, I basically got everything on this damn Firepower working - except for the sound. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it will go out in the middle of a game and not come back on. Cycling power doesn't help. Nothing in sound test will work when the sound is out. Pushing the button on the sound board will not make it work when it is out.

I have power to the sound board. I have done continuity checks from the board to the speaker to eliminate wiring or connectors. I have done the same for the volume control - which works fine when the sound is working.

I'm beginning to think it's a heat issue of some kind, but I'm trying to figure out if it's on the sound board or on the CPU/Driver board. I'm about to dig up another soundboard to try in it.

Unless someone has a better idea...

The sound board works totally independent of the CPU board. It has it's own power supply, processor, RAM, ROM.... everything. So whatever it is, if the self test isn't working on the sound board, that's where your problem is.

I had a Firepower doing the same thing. Mine was the power supply on the sound board. It was a combination of cold solder joints on the power input pins. Fixed the solder joints then the 2 power fuses on the sound board were blowing. Then I found out the bridge rectifier on the sound board was bad. Wile I was at it I replaced the 5 volt regulator and all was good.

I've got a spare if you can't get that one working - I'll swap it with yours, and fix that one later...

I can look at it for you as well - they're usually pretty easy to fix - let me know!

Do you still need to borrow a Centuri Eagle board?

Nope; got mine working - thanks! I've also gotten one of my Frogger boards working in the Ms. Pac, so everything's good for the moment!
