Firepower HS -- problem

953720 with a 9 month old baby standing on my lap leaning on the glass blocking flippers completely from view.

Never got multi-ball, only locked 2 balls during that game.

Game right after I only got 90500 though.

edit...

apparently there is a problem with my game now, I noticed that everything makes the score go up in 50 point increments...ball on shooter lane switch = 50 points, flipper button press = 50 points, etc, etc, so the game is consistently ramping up the score throughout the game for no legit reason.

I am taking my sister out to dinner for her bday, but when I get back I plan on reseating the driver/mpu boards. What else I should I try?

You're ready to install the "divide by 10" ROMs and start posting some real scores.

I couldn't find the /10 ROMs only the "mission" ROMs, please enlighten me. The last few days, my scores have been consistently close to 1 million so I can see where those ROMs would be helpful.

Chris, do you remember the issue with the switch at the top of the playfield activating when any solenoid near it activated? I think it was the 'R'. This may be that switch, or another that is closing anytime another solenoid activates.

You are right it is the R that was real sensitive, I'll check / adjust that switch. TBH I forgot that switch needed to be adjusted.

Here is a link to the pinmame ROMs. It's labeled for pinmame but it should contain a flipper ROM that will work on real hardware and divide the scores by 10 when match is turned off. This basically shifts your score one digit to the right making giving you a millions digit.

I didn't get a chance to look at it last night -- dinner ran till 10:15p then I had to come into work :-(, but I will get to check it out this morning.

Anyway, found this site which has a scoring breakdown so I could try and determine which switch might be acting up: http://pinball.flippers.info/firepowerrules.asp

The score keeps rapidly increasing in 10pt increments and the only thing on the playfield that awards 10 points is the slingshot bumpers. If this switch is stuck/reading closed, wouldn't the slingshot solenoid keep firing off?

At first I was thinking along the lines of OZ with the rollover switch for the "R" being the most likely cause of the problem as it is a real sensitive switch, but those rollovers award 1000pts either lit or unlit and the only time I usually get the "R" to light without rolling over the switch is when I hit the base of the lane guide.

So THAT is how you're getting high scores... now I see ;)

If you suspect switch problems I would start with the switch test. Pull the glass off and gently hit your fist against the playfield and see if any switches activate. You might have a switch that's set a little too tight.

I had the sound turned almost all the way off, so I didn't realize what was going on until I turned the sound up the other day and noticed I was getting points with the ball sitting still in the shooter lane. With as much noise as the machine was making, it was very hard to ignore.

Did this this morning and couldn't find the culprit, the flaky "R" didn't even activate. Checked all the switches and everything checked out fine. I played for an hour and only had one game start going nuts with the points. This time it was in 1000pt increments so I guess that rules out the slingshot point theory.

I separated the MPU / Driver boards and reseated and haven't had another problem with it yet tonight -- but I've only had the pin on for about 15mins.

Chris, I have the parts to replace the header. We can take care of it next week, when I get back into town. I am flying home tomorrow and will not be back until Monday.

That sounds great! I am pretty sure that interconnect is the source of the problems.

I finish up midnights Sunday so I'll be back to a normal schedule on Monday so any day next week is great.

Figured it out and fixed. Thank goodness, this was driving me nuts and apparently I was over thinking the problem.

Left side star rollover was randomly getting stuck in the closed position when getting rolled over and giving points based on how long flipper button was held down.

Game was playing good until I hit that rollover when locking the ball and then the oh duh moment happened. Rollover was getting stuck down enough to register points but not enough to be real noticeable visually.

There was some old crusty wax on the white rollover star that was causing it to stick about halfway down into the red plastic. Not enough to jump out at you and be real obvious. I pulled the white star out, scraped all the wax / dirt off the star with a razorblade and then cleaned the plastic with lighter fluid on a Q-Tip. Everything worked proper after that.

Amazing at what a simple cleaning of things can do. I figured it was debris of some sort that was the culprit. After reading this I checked mine and added it to my "to-do list". Thats will be when ever I feel like "tinkering" a bit ,I'll be pulling my rollovers off for a clean, as I noticed some wax build up around the edges.
