Firefly: The Arcade Game

yep that cab looks photoshopped.

Clearly, though there are often early mockups as opposed to actual pics. Regardless, I think that considering this is Firefly, it's gotta be a prank :p

Is this real, Shag? Seems like it would be pretty elaborate for a hoax, and posted a bit early for April Fools. But also, Firefly license? And tracballs? It's hard to believe but I don't want it to be fake either!

I wish it were real too but no, it is a joke. A big thanks to Gozer for the model and texturing, I contacted him just a few days before posting and he did that very last minute for me. I had been kicking the idea for an April Fools joke for a while and I figured Firefly would be the perfect fit for a Cabal-style run'n gun modern game.

I don't mean to dangle a carrot for everyone here but when I contacted GlobalVR about it to get their permission for a little cover, they were impressed with it enough to say that "maybe we SHOULD do a game like this". It's the most popular story I've done for the blog this year, in fact in the past couple of years. Perhaps when they hear that they will see its a good opportunity. :)

It was very thorough and well done. I say you just replace the tracball with a spinner for movement and keep the tron-style joystick for aiming. GlobalVR definitely should make it! Terminator Salvation was a commercial flop but it has proven a good arcade license (although it does have TERMINATOR in the title).

Thanks! That control scheme could work too - I've actually thought of some game ideas that use that sort of setup. Being how the industry is right now though, I wouldn't be surprised if they would either do a joystick for movement and mounted light-gun for aiming or ditch the sticks all-together and make it another light-gun game. But I want a Cabal style run ' n gun done in 3D that would make me happy :D

Wouldn't THAT be something? It wouldn't be the first time in arcade game or console/computer game history for something like that to happen, either.

What is this Firefly you speak of? :D

I knew it had to be April fools but that would be cool. Who would shell out the money for one though?
