Fine Tuning -> Focusing Correctly... Nanao m8-26su

click that blue button also just for gigs. In my v fighter it just shifts the image a little but that could be a neg/pos sync selector or something so click it and see what happens just for gigs. Both rows of adjustments always work. we can worry about dialing in your colors after you get it syncing and degaussed well. the big bieotch is these nanaos arent documanted well here in the states, which sucks as these came with alot of sega games in the 90s.

So in picture 2, is the second row adjustable?

Yes.

In picture 3 there is like a blueish push button, is that to switch between rows?

No. it just makes your picture slightly bigger or smaller, although I only notice a slight difference.

Also, in Picture 4, does it matter if the black/white of the power is switched, just making sure that's right too.

Switched how? You mean reversed? Shouldn't matter...

Bad news....Could this be a reason stuff has been acting funny? I took a look at my PCB board and here is what I found.

Yep. Follow those traces to the pads and you'll see what's affected. Looks like speaker and some video. Wonder if this happened by someone putting the connector on backwards.

You're going to have to fix that before you'll have any chance to get anything right. Or replace the board...

wtf??? i thought this game had slow degrading color issues? man thats smoked. for sure theres your issue man. Mabye the monitor you pulled is still good too who knows!

How good are you at soldering? mabye you could patch that up. Im just wondering why it went poof!

My only guess is that another cord touched there at some point.

To answer your soldering questions, I've successfully soldered about 40 laptop DC jack repairs. If you point me in the right direction with what kind of stuff I need to solder, or is it just a matter of cleaning up the broken stuff with flux and reflowing? I'll take the board out tomorrow to get some better pictures, but is that the idea of trying to fix it?

I'm not really in the mood to drop a bunch of money on a new board. If that's the case, I may just make a mame driver out of it. (Ducks the throwing shoes)

Thanks,

you need to figure out what those little components are. If thryre just little coils( for shielding/noise reduction) you *might* be able to get away with tracing back to a good spot on the board and using thin wire to jump back to the edge connector.

its already effing smoked to really giving it a try really cant hurt, itll either fix it up or kill it comletely, either way worth a try( id already be soldering on it if it was mine :D )

I took a picture the best I could, and outlined in yellow the three areas that had no continuity. What are those things? Can I just desolder, clean up, and put on new?

Thanks!

What board is this again? Can we find a schematic, board layout, or parts list for it? Any location designators for them?

This is Off-Road Challenge by Midway. The red light in the picture is D5, and the black circuit on the right is C233.

coinopdirect said in a different post that he had a pdf copy of this manual, and that he send it to CrazyKong - but it's not posted there. Perhaps you could PM him for a copy...

So, I got the manual but it does not give anything on what parts are on the PCB (the really little ones) I'm not even sure where to find these but I know I can remove/solder new ones in with not problems. I really don't want to drop $200 on a new PCB....

So, funny story. I ordered another PCB, (got a really good deal) plugged it in and everything works like a champ. Just have to fine tune a few colors and degauss and I'll be all set. Is there a degauss cord for a Nanao? I do not recall having one on the virtua cop game but there was a separate button on the original Wells Gardner that was in the Off-Road. Cords do not match though.

Thanks!

I have the monitor hooked up and running. What steps do i take to get the colors to work correctly? The colors seems a bit off, so I'm wondering if there's an easy approach in making the colors correct rather then just guess and check.

Thanks,
zasteeg

I usually turn each up until the background starts turning that color, then turn it down until the background JUST goes black, but the normal sprites are nice a bright. I do this for each. Sometimes you have to find the proper balance between drive and bias to get the perfect bright color without any background haze. Obviously, adjusting brightness and contrast will affect it, too.

if you get one color that seems to need a lot higher adjustment for a balanced pic, then you probably need to rejuv the tube (assuming the chassis has been rebuilt)...

My reds are blue, my yellows are red, my blues are green.

Do I have something hooked up wrong?

The pictures are really blurry, screen doesn't look THAT bad, just color mix ups.

ok mabye the video wires are not marked correctly.

using your logic, swap the color wires around untill you think they are right. Youll know if its right just by looking at the pic.

Im very happy to see this thing syncing properly FINALLY!!!

You are so close, so close...

as far as degauss, yes this monitor shoudl use an external degauss switch.

Theres a 2 pin connector on the side of the chassis, that goes to the degauss switch. It uses a standard normally open, temporarily closed pushbutton switch.
