Finally got the Zeke's Peaks into the house so I can start the repair/restore!

Got some new parts, another CP, wiring harnesses! Will be testing them and repairing this weekend! (up for sale soon...lol)

Okay, Here is what I am going to have to do....

All 3 need new belts. (I have 3, need 3 more)
2 need doors made for the back.
2 need pedestals made
1 needs a coin door.
1 needs a new joystick/control panel (which I have both)
1 needs a new power cord... but works with the one I spliced in.

I have only tested some switches, they seem good, but I will have to test them all.
One wont power up (but the top light does, which mean PS issue to me) *could be a fuse - HAHA!

All need a GOOD cleaning. I think I can get all of them restored and working in pretty quick order!

I cleaned them all out today, ran some tests.
Besides cleaning, the rest may have to wait until next Thursday.

Just going to run down everything as it happens.
After cleaning them out yesterday, I spliced a temp cord on the one missing a cord, and it fired up and played. (Still have to test switches and get in the belts for the lift motors.)

The second one booted up and played as well.

The third would not boot up. After talking to a buddy, we decided to use the machine's main ground to test voltages... well I realized the machine didnt have a ground as the plug was missing the ground post. Just to be sure I had an "earth" ground to work with... I splice on a different temp plug with a ground... the thing booted up! The issue now is that it rings a tilt alarm and registers only "tilt" when it does boot up.

This is the nicest one, so I def want it to work. I will swap boards next to see if it is a wire short, or ma board issue.

Picking up some wiring harnesses, coin door, and another CP from storage later today! May do more cleaning this eve.

Not sure if anyone is even following...lol

Buuuuuuuut will post through the trouble shooting process:

Zeke #3... the tilt issue. (the keep it simple stupid theory proved correct)

Okay had a few minutes today and nobody has been able to make heads or tails of this... so I wanted to trouble shoot.

Checked the edge connectors to see if the teeth were maybe crossed and touching... no dice.

So I pulled the board to inspect it. I noticed the the tilt mech was bent down, and the pendulum was wrapped in wire... which tells me this issue is over 20 years old. Someone tried to disable the tilt, and it didnt work.

Because I figured it was a short on the board, I start the inspection, and everything looks good. I grab my DMM to test the transistors.

Before I do this, I pull out the manual and decide to look over the schematics to give me a place to start on the board.

I follow the wiring diagram.... the tilt is wired to the "Slam Tilt" on the coin door.

Could it be that frigin simple?

I look at the slam tilt and it is definitely touching itself and bent... but the wires are not connected... hmmmm. No dice????

I find the wires still with the connectors attached twisted together and tucked int the wiring harness on the door... sure enough some of the copper wire from each wire is touching the other.

I bend back the slam tilt so it is not touching, untwist the wires and reconnect them to the posts for the slam tilt and fire her up...

BAM! she boots, credits, and starts to play music!!!!!!

Very cool. all 3 boot, credit, and play music as well as begin games!

I need to test all the switches and put belts in them... so I can then test all the switches... but very happy to be here!!!! :D

Okay, next update... did a few things today.

First, needed a different CP on Zeke #2 as there was a wiring issue and a JS issue. So I swapped in another CP I bought a few months ago (maybe a year) and swapped the wiring:

Then I went to Lowes today and had them cut me 4 back doors out of 3/4 inch hardwood finish plywood. I got enough to make a few new pedestals. I am going to build a new one for my ICB as well.

But these Zeke's now will have better backdoors and pedestals than they had from the factory!

I then spent 90 mins, and 2 rolls of paper towels cleaning these things...lol
I have chapped Windex hands now!

I am going to clean the CPs real well tomorrow with a magic eraser (s) tomorrow as well as try to get another coin door on one of them. I am waiting on some parts to come in as well, and still have some parts to order... but if all the switches arent toast... I should have these done in a week or two!!!!

Holy smokes... three Zeke's. That is awesome. Do you plan on setting any of them up as a redemption machine?

Actually, I found these at an OPs warehouse. I dont intend on keeping them... maybe one, but the other 2 may already be sold.

I got my parts today, so I caan hook up belts tomorrow and see what we are dealing with the switches and controls!

Okay,

Got 2 Zeke's working finally.

Changed a coin door
Swapped a Joystick
Soldered some wires/components
greased/oiled/cleaned rails
Replaced several switches & bulbs
Had to chase down a wiring issue, and replace another plug.
Tested all switches, and finally got 2 of the 3 up and running

The third is having an issue with the display (an odd one) and there is a switch issue as switch number 2 is coming up with an error (I have seen this issue before, so I have to try to remember how to fix it...lol)

I need a coin door for that one too, and to work out an issue with the playfield or bar being too far forward.

Here is a video of them working.. sorry it is so shaky, but this damned camera is so damned small and I was hopped up on Throwback Dew...lol

Nice work. Anyone who gets one of these will be loving how smooth they work now. Wish you were on the west coast!

Thanks arcadeannex!

Finished the doors today. Drilled, hardware, and added the brackets.

I am going to put felt pads where they sit on the game to prevent chipping down the line.
Again, this is finished plywood, 3/4 inch and they look great!

Made four doors!

Almost done!!!!

Those look great! It's always a bonus to work on multiples of the same machine when possible; the troubleshooting can be so much easier.

For belts, I like to use the thinner wiper arm washer tubing, as opposed to the regular washer or vacuum tubing. For a coupler, I use a cut off piece of a small machine screw about an inch long, and locate it under the crossbar clamp so it never sees a wheel.

It's also a good idea to clean the crossbar internally, a rifle bore cleaning rod and patches work great for that with some solvent to break up the old grease. That's really the key to getting smooth precise control.
