Got around to finally unpacking my Galaga from the NW Pinball and Gameroom Show. Swapped in the 4600 from one of the dead Pacs that I put out of their misery a couple of months back.

Man I am rusty. Game is still set on the show specs. (5 ships, no extra lives, rank "D")

First game 49k, and very disappointing. Second game a little better, and pics to prove it.

wow! thats a great score, it looks like your monitor needs some degaussing on the top right, I need to do that to my Galaga as well.

49K wow your rusty, Im glad you did not put that second score up here!!! I still have not beat the 160k you put up here a month ago:eek:

...

Dokert, with a little more practice you might get good at Galaga!

Galaga is one of my favorite games.. Still remember the first one I ever saw "NEW GAME" sign over it and a line of guys 10 thick to play.

Holy crap !!

I thought you could only fix them , not play them !!

Great score - but a sad story. How many of us actually spend more time fixing or building verses actually playing? I get one arcade done (repaired or restored and start on another one). Seems the only time my machines get touched is 6 months out of the year (commonly known as winter)

played a game

I think thats the problem with this hobby trying too restore all these classic games.

But we forget the part that started everything off is playing these Wonderfull machines.

I don'nt have alot of Extra money for restoring or fixing things up.. I just love going into my game room and playing them! It was my dream too have this room when i was a kid!

:hail:I bow down to your mad photoshop skillz:hail: Those scores almost look real....

Now quite fooling around and get back to making cables!

Now I guess I'll have to finish that 48n1 so I can post my 64K high score....

Have you tried shooting when you get snagged into the tractor beam? You can actually take out bugs while spinning. But be careful, you can also take out the tractor beam ship.

It's a cool stunt though.

Damn Dokert, didn't realize you were that good at Galaga! Was all of our harassment about "damn that things still wrapped?!" finally enough to push you over the line?

I sadly work on arcade machines WAY more than I play them! :( Even worse I spend more time MOVING machines around then I do playing arcade machines. If I do play when I'm home alone I'll turn a row of them on or plug a single machine in. If some friends come over I usually turn 2-4 rows on. The whole house of 40 machines gets turned on MAYBE 2 times a year.

BUT, I do this intentionally... I still enjoy playing any of my arcade machines since I don't burn myself out on them. I generally play a few hours every week one of the nights. I might play one for a few days in a row (usually after I get it) then I go down that row and play the other games that are turned on.

I spent 100 times longer repairing Tempest as opposed to playing it before it died again in less than a month.

It is ONLY this reason that I have a MAME cab. It's never down.

Dokert, that's a great score on Galaga - you just had to get in the zone where your brain kicked into beta waves.

I only get around the high 280K range on my best day and it's always after losing my first ship that everything falls apart.

Get 280K on one ship with the dual fire, and lose even just one of them and my flow is gone.

I'm holding out hope for a reasonably priced Galaga machine to come my way. Until then I'll have to stick with playing this game on the Namco Museum Xbox collection. It's an Ok version, except it doesn't have the rapid fire setting. I will not share my high score here, as it's barely above your crappy one.
