So I used to have a DK cocktail in my arcade years ago. Kenneth Jeffrey actually delivered it to me way back in 2009 or 10 or so. He sold it to me for $165, partially working. I then cobbled together a working 4 board stack from the 2 I had, the one I bought for about $45 and the one that came with the machine. After I pieced a working board stack together, the game worked great. The sound was perfect and it was just like I remember when I played the one in the old Melrose arcade back in 82. Well as time went on, my firstborn son Layne fell in love with the game. For whatever reason, I thought he was too little to really know what he liked and that he would just like any video game as they were all the same to him. He was probably about 3 or 4 when I sold it. Well, he talked about the game for years afterward so I went out and found a DK cabaret. That scratched the itch for a while, but then we sold our house and moved to Gramma's house for a year. During that time, everything went into storage as we finished our nearly 2 year long remodel. We finally moved into the lake house in April 2017. Now Layne was 8 and I didn't think he even remembered the game much less cared about it. Well, within the first year, I saw somebody in Cali was looking for a DK cabaret so I foolishly offered this one. Dude accepted almost immediately. My son came up to me and said "Dad seriously? That's the second time you've sold a Donkey Kong on me and it is my favorite game. I think I played it almost every night. I can't believe you would do that again!" Now apparently he had been going down there himself in secret and playing it cause I only saw him play it once or twice myself. But anyway, I don't know why I always end up selling the games he loves, but for whatever reason I do. Maybe it's cause he never tells me he loves them until they're on their way out. Anyway, after making that mistake a 2nd time, I felt terrible and was bound and determined to find another cocktail or cabaret for him, to keep in the collection forever. After 7 years of looking, I finally found one!
This one was about 50 miles away and the guy wanted 200 bucks for it, working. I contacted him right away, but somebody had already claimed it (of course) and was supposed to be on their way to pick it up. He marked pending on the listing. I shot him a message telling him if the other guy flakes I'll take it. Well last Thursday I got a message from him stating that the other guy flaked and it was mine if I wanted it. Then he told me he was actually coming to within 5 miles of my house on Saturday and would just bring it to me. So we met in a parking lot and moved the cocktail from his truck to my truck. I handed the wonderfully nice dude the 200 bucks and brought it to my storage facility. I plan to do a little cleaning and working on it and then moving it into the Arcade. We finally have a DK cocktail again! Woohoo!! I'm keeping it in the storage facility so I can surprise my son with it. Here are some pics from the seller as I haven't taken any of it yet myself.
