Finally found my "grail machine", GRAVITAR! I discovered this game by accident. When I was trying to trade my Neo Geo this summer, I stared a discussion with a retail arcade dealer in St Louis and mentioned that I was looking for Gravitar. At that time, this cabinet was sitting in his basement and not his showroom. His asking price was out of my rage so I was forced to pass. Last week, I decided to contact the dealer again and see if we could strike a fair deal and we did!
I know there's people here would love pinball and have gone "pinball" and never looked back. I must say I'm the opposite. I liked my Evel Kneival pin but my heart is really in classic video arcades. I just find pinball not nearly as fun as video arcades. So I made the trade for my "grail".

The control panel was in the best condition of any classic game I've ever bought. This is why..

Someone had drilled 5 holes and bolted plastic or plexi over the CP. Decent trade off, five small holes for a really nice Gravitar CPO.
Here's some eye candy for all those that love the classic Atari artwork like me

I couldn't resist....

Congratz, awesome looking game...but i have to say one of the hardest games to play. Blkdog has one and the few times i played it i sucked balls at it. But if you own one and play it a lot, get pretty good i can see it being a fun game.

Love the Gravitar artwork. It never gets old to look at.

I really want the poster for it, but they rarely show-up. :(

Awesome score! Does that price tag say $950? Yikes!

I actually been playing a lot more Gravitar than usual lately. Getting ready to swap in Black Widow and I have to admit I am gonna miss having it available to play all the time. Maybe I'll do Black Widow for a few months then go back to Gravitar for a few months.

Anyways... CONGRATS!! Looks real nice.

Very cool! Gravitar is probably one of the greatest arcade games ever made. The challenging gameplay, all the planets, the cabinet artwork.... amazing.

Congrats, now it's time to think up another grail to seek!

You can really brighten the white on that cab by using some "Mean Green" and some 0000 steel wool. Don't use Simple Green, it's weak and won't work.

All the usual caveats apply- test in an inconspicious area, blah, blah, blah.

Spray, wipe lightly with steel wool, and wipe off the liquid with paper towels. I usually start at the top and work my way down the sides in strips.

When you're done, you'll be amazed how much better the sideart looks with the smokey film removed off it.

You can buy Mean Green at places like Dollar General. It's the best cleaner for coin op stuff!

On your high-score leader board yours says "co-pilot" list.

Mine says "flunky list". What's the deal with that?

Never mind, I figured it out:

Table 1-5 Gravitar High-Score Lists
Depending on the highest score, one of eight list names appears above the table of initials
Name of List Points
FLUNKY 0-20,000
GUNNER 20,001-40,000
CO-PILOT 40,001-80,000
PILOT 80,001-100,000
ACE PILOT 100,001-200,000
KILLER PILOT 201,001-400,000
PONTIUS PILATE 400,001-800,000
GOTTA-BE-LUCKY above 800,000

I just reset my high-scores. So, yeah...

Thanks all for the kind words. Yeah Keith, you picked it out...He has a Black Widow also. It was a bit on the rough side, I'm not certain it worked and worst of all, it had BW art only on one side. He made me an offer but my new grail is... Discs of Tron!
Man I would be one lucky SOB to find one and then be able to afford it.:)

409 and a rag works just fine also, took the cigarette tar and grime off the side of mine and brightened it up to like new condition.
