Finally I feel accomplished in this hobby (my first monitor repair)

been fighting with 2 unknown chassis lately, I felt i needed to just get over them and try my hand on a working one... Worse I could do is make it completely non working right?

So i picked up a monitor a few months ago and couldn't get the focus and brightness to stay dialed in. I decided it was a prime candidate for a cap kit and flyback. so i sucked it up and went to it. decided i could use the semi working flyback to later diagnose the other 2 boards i'm having issues with (hoping it might get me a bit further)

Anyways, i rolled up my sleeves and went to work, i reflowed the issue solder joints everyone recommends as well as a few on the neckboard. The plastic guide piece for the neckboard split in 2 pieces of course when i pulled it as well... That Y92A frame sucks more than debbie did in dallas. C57 was the cap that was starting to jiffy pop (47uf 160v)

long story short i got my big boy pants on now!

Just wanted to share, GO ME!

chassis

nice, i had a friend rebuild my monitor for granny and the gators. musta did something wrong cause i cant get it to work and keep getting a spark plug shock to the body! gave up before my pacemaker shorted out. i officially fn hate chassis. went to youtube and learned how to get rid of voltage off the flyback. feel like an ahole! but i aint gonna do any chassis work for a while! congrats good job my friend!

Congrats man!

I have several sitting around here waiting for me to make the same decision but I haven't built up the courage yet to try. Definitely a big step in the right direction!

Gonna down some crown and coke in honor of this momentous occasion. Here's to brood.

Nice !

I have a couple WG4900's that are kinda blurry , even after adjustment . You said your monitor was blurry too . So does replacing the flyback usually fix that ? Is it a sign the flyback is on its way out ? I still have little boy pants on .

I'm no PRO but i would say the flyback is a good place to start as it controls the focus. while your doing it you might as well cap it for the $8 or so that that costs.

Give it some time those big boy pants will fit eventually. I've been zapped once so all this discharging of the monitor lately has been nerve racking but i'm pretty much over it now and just reach right in with far less hesitation.

4900 flys are considered fairly robust. I'd look elsewhere for the cause of your issue.

Awesome man good job.. but your not a man till you touch a charged flyback.. ;)

i had one arc to the frame with my hand as the bridge while running does that count? :D

only needed to feel that once to know my place.

nice! Kudos +1 - Looks like buying all that broken stuff is paying off ;) hehe

worked with your aero fighters board :D (i didn't buy that tho you did, and it wasn't really broken i guess lol )
