...are you really allowed to use the word "finally" after a month of collecting?

Eh, we have been talking about acquiring this for three years now so I guess it feels like a lot longer.

Replay value is different for everyone. I played the hell out of this on the NES.

Man, you're the second person in the last month or so to post about finding a Smash T.V. Congrats!

I hope I find one some day. I'll make room for it. And I disagree, I think it has great replay value if you play co-op. But everyone has their own opinion of what has good replay value. :)

It's like Gauntlet... if you're not dumping quarters in, and just keep on pressing the start button to keep going, there's no value to playing it.

Yup, that is the case for a lot of JAMMA games. Some guys don't like it and some guys don't mind. So I guess I do agree with you to a certain extent.

Some games aren't that great to begin with and they are even worse when you know there's continuous play as long as you keep coining up (in other words, no game over/restart). This pretty much applies to most, if not all silver age games (Konami 4P, MVS, fighters, side scrollers, etc.). I think this is mainly because by that time, the goal wasn't really to get a high score, but to just enjoy the game itself and any possible co-op play (Ex. Street Fighter II).

But in a home arcade, if you maybe set limits and/or goals for yourself (Ex. I'm going to try to beat this in four continues or less at a difficult setting), it could be a little more challenging and playable. But like I said, some games suck regardless like X-Men. I have it so I can swap in other 4P games and for nostalgic reasons.

Now you just have to get a Total Carnage board. Swaps directly into that cab.

If the OP has zero self restraint and is overall horrible at video games, yeah...that is very much a problem. I'm not sure anyone will enjoy owning any arcade game if they are a combination of both. Including pre-continue titles.

Smash TV has a screwed up difficulty ramp, but a solid chunk of it can be passed in limited credits. The first level can definitely be 1 credited if you work at it. If the OP really likes Smash TV and plays to try and beat the game in X credits, she won't get bored.

I'd totally recommend hunting down a Total Carnage AND a Robotron PCB (Jamma adapter...I know someone did one).

it depends on what gamer you are. sure, same controls, same designer same sort of concept and basic game play... but it has a totally different feel... bloody, weird, 2 player and i can say that everyone that came into my place since i have had both have been more excited to play smash TV... granted they are all around 37/ 38 years old... so that changes things a bit, and fairly consistently they are more impressed that i have a robotron, but more excited to play smash tv....

also, on a side note....just found out that my friend knows eugene jarvis!!! got to get both them signed! :)

i really wish i had a superman pin around too......

Smash TV has absolutely no replay value -- should have gotten a Robotron instead.

I concur 100%! Have SmashTV, total carnage and robotron w/jamma adapter installed along with mike's arcade 2-in-1 switcher In mine. Robotron plays amazing in a smashTV cab and recently found I prefer it to playing a dedicated. The sticks feel better and don't cramp up my hands. Tried getting clays multiswitcher to switch between games instead, but couldn't get it to work :( so now just am able to automatically switch between 2 games then manually switch the harness to play the third. JeffC has a nice writeup on installing the smashtv/total carnage w/mikes 2-in-1 on his 720 site (thanks Jeff!) and that helped alot :)

Glad you are happy with the game (she got it from me). I sold it to make room for a Sinistar that is coming this week. SMASH TV was always one of those games that was on my "Must have" list as I am a huge fan of Jarvis's games and was looking to snag most of the Vid Kidz collection (also currently have Robotron & Stargate). And before "someone" starts yelping about how much Blaster sucks, I know. Sometimes games are worth collecting for reasons other than game play, so let it be already. I decided to let the SMASH TV go because I found myself playing Robotron much more and only playing the former title in co-op mode when people were over.

Anyway, Melissa it was great to meet you and Rich yesterday and I look forward to hanging out and visiting the SMASH TV soon. As for "Sandy Crotche's" response, sometimes you have to have a thick skin on these forums. Don't take it personally. Enjoy the hobby and ignore those who cannot do the same.

Yes, assuming she has wanted one since before she started collecting. If she's wanted a Smash TV since the first time she played one back in 1990, then that means she has wanted one for 20 years. I think saying she 'finally' got one is permissible, no?

Let's see a pic of your Smash running Robotron. That was going to be my original plan (I started early with a Smash TV) until I found a Robo cocktail.

Do you have an email addy I can send to? I'm not sure how to post pix here. Robotron kicks butt in a smashtv cab. The game sounds and looks great in the smashtv and the joysticks feel better than the originals. Just played on a nice robotron a couple weeks ago and I've ditched plans to add a dedicated. If space wasn't at such a premium, I'd like one someday. Controls are wired to P1 move and fire.
