I just got a KI cabinet with an original KI board but with KI2 conversion kit installed. I will convert it back soon enough Im actually just really enjoying KI2.
My main reason for starting this thread is learn of any modifications that fellow owners are taking in order to ensure the safety and longevity of this fragile pcb.

I have seen a few mods with small fans on top of the heatsink but thats it.

Also I feel as though the bass from this game is a lot less thunderous than I remembered. I have performed troubleshooting steps for things like PCB and monitors/chassis, but never for sound bass issues. I just would like any suggestions on a place to start looking/testing.

My last question seems like a simple one but one situation that I have never had to deal with so Im not sure of. One of the joystick dust washers is missing. I know that it sits in between the metal and the wood but my question is how do you get to it? How is the metal attached to the wood? With adhesive or are there some screws under the cpo artwork? I just want be sure before I start to rip my cpo up.

Congrats on the cab. I've got a KI2 and have heard of the fan mod and of course ssd drive, of which I have done neither. Interested in what others respond with.

As for the bass.. when I got mine one of the speakers was dead, so I opted for a speaker upgrade but it is not super bassy, pretty well rounded I guess. Maybe KI1 is a bassier game..

For the dust washers you just unscrew the joysticks.

Yeah, I started to think that maybe the bass will sound the way I remembered once I convert back to KI.

As for the dust washers, the buttons and joystick have been removed from the CPO, the dust washer (if installed) remains in place, in between the metal and the wood. I just wanted to be sure on how to get to it. Use force to pull the metal off the wood or do I have to remove the art first to get to the metal.

Eesh I guess I just washed the dust covers as best I could with them in place, must've forgotten about that awesome design. My guess is the metal detaches somehow, hopefully with screws and not glue. If my control panel art was still in good shape I'd probably find a slightly smaller dust cover and warm it up a bit to bend to fit, then warm it back up to flatten it back out and hope for the best. I usually try to keep my original overlays though unless it is ripped, etc.

Yeah, after removing the lexan overlay the art is is pretty good shape. I definitely hope I do not have to rip it off to get to the metal. Its just when I got the cab, one dust washer was in place and the other non existent. So being the stickler that I am, I really want to place one in there.

Once you remove the screws that hold down the plexi, look under the wood control panel you will find quite a few nuts each one has to be removed and even where the latch pieces are, once they all are removed you can lift the entire metal panel off the wood, to access the plastic disc washer for the joystick, it's a pain

mine was run commercially for years with the stock fan. if you want to do what hyperneogeo is doing then have at it.

the only mods you need are Eurosticks and blue and white IL buttons.

Thank you sir, I can sleep easy now knowing that I have my dust washers in place. My wife was happy that I only spent a few minutes in the garage instead of a few hours.
