Couple weeks ago, I picked up a Galaxian cab from a fellow KLOVer for a steal. While loading up the cab, I noticed he had a Joust cabinet, and it was in very nice shape. I told him that if he was ever interested in letting it go, I would be interested in buying it as I'd been looking for one lately.

Fast forward to last weekend, he called me and told me I could have it. SWEET!

So the story goes, he bought it from an operator in 1987. The OP had it in a local arcade for 5 years, then sold it to him. He's had it in his apartment for the last 31 years.

It's dusty, but it's SO clean. I'm pumped.

Of course, pics or it never happened, right?

So beautiful! Looked at all the pics, and not one showing the coin counters! Since this was
mainly HUO, I'm curious to know how many quarters/play-clicks this got on it! Thanks!

I looked for one; you know I did :)

They didn't use mechanical coin counters on these games - they stored the play totals in the audits menu. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can clear those totals, so there may not be any way to determine just how many plays the cabinet got.

Interesting.... please tell me more :)

See here.

Joust is definitely one of my favorites. So many tricks and strategies to playing it.

I watched Lon roll a couple Jousts at ZapCon last month and picked up a few tips.

One of the most iconic arcade games ever made and a life-long keeper for my collection.

Congrats on the pickup. I'd be super pumped too!

Why are some Joust machines really just painted over Robotron cabinets?

Larry DeMar Sept 2013- While Robotron was a significant success in the marketplace, the market got ahead of itself and there were more orders in the distribution chain than the market of operators could absorb. As things settled, the distributors cancelled orders for a significant number of games (probably a few thousand) which Williams was in the process of making. Some number of completely painted Robotron cabinets were re-painted to become Joust which followed Robotron.

Interesting.. the condition is amazing. I noticed that it still has the trim along the bottom sides, that's usually long gone. I'd never known, though, that it had trim along the front edge.

Looks minty sweet, Arcadeshop has the yellow flap button if you want to change it out.

There's been some kind of mistake. The universe was supposed to give that amazing Joust to me.

Beautiful! Are you planning any bulletproofing updates? I see it's still running on the original linear psu.

Yeah, I'll track updates here.

The plan:

  • Rebuild linear power supply
  • Rebuild monitor
  • RAM update
  • new t-molding
  • touch up artwork
  • magic eraser CPO
  • wipe down and dust inside and out
