I picked this cab up from Brentradio in Vegas.
All I know is that it used to be a Popeye and it was at one time owned by Showbiz pizza,
it still has the asset tag.
When I got it, it was already painted with orange latex paint (really rough).
Here are some pics,

The cab wasn't as bad as some of the cabs I've done but it had it's share of gouges and grooves

Where are the finished pics Greg? I'm getting antsy already. Haha. I love the fact that you literally tear apart the whole cabinet to sand, repair, and paint. One of these days, I'll take the time to do it, but I just can't get myself to strip it down to every part. I guess I'm not patient enough. Haha. Your attention to detail is admirable. I can't wait to see the rest of the pics! :)

It came out pretty good, I'm happy with it.
I'd like to thanks the following KLOVers for parts and such

Brentradio
eseyo1
ataritoobin
Timberterror
Rikitiki
Deadly for giving Timberterror my name for the bezel
and chris25810 (he capped the monitor I got from Brentradio, all I had to do was open the box reassemble it and adjust the convergence and focus, saved me some time.)

Is it just me or do these pics look squished?
Anyway, thanks guys. I couldn't have done it without ya.
Greg

Hey Jess,
You beat me to it, ha ha. Yeah this is stripped, sanded, bondo applied/ prepped, primed, painted, wet sanded and last but not least vinyled. I'm really starting to dig the finish that the vinyl provides. It looks just right to me and the red seems to be the perfect shade. It almost exactly matches the red shade in the side art.

Oh my goodness, Greg. How come every cab you restore looks like you bought a brand new one? I envy your skills bro.

Seriously, that is the most pristine DK3 I have ever seen. I'm loving how your Nintendo row is turning out. I'm glad I was able to help you complete it.

Again, good job on another great restore. It's almost midnight and seeing your pictures makes me want to go in the garage and finish my project. Haha. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for the kind words sir. I don't know about the most pristine, Phet and Krajkerjac have some pretty clean red DK3 restores. At least now I can focus on my Defender stealth multi Williams project. This DK3 took me forever to complete. Trying to find time around the holidays almost killed me. Thanks for your help with this project Jess.

Well, you're right. Phet does have a beautiful DK3 as well. I guess I should rephrase and say you have "one of the most pristine." :)

Yeah, I didn't have much time over the holidays either. I'm just starting to get working on my Vs. cab. Good luck on the MW project. I'm sure it will turn out great.

Nice work Greg. That is beautiful. I loves me some DK3 in red. That vinyl really does make these Ninty cabs pop. Glad you used it. Where did you get your side art? Mine was NOS, but still has a few crinkles and folds that are visible even when installed. Tearing them down is the ONLY way to really get that kickplate and speaker panel vinyl on perfectly. How did reassembly go? I've torn apart 3 or 4 of these cabs and I always seem to have at least 1 discrepancy when I reassemble them. Something doesn't line up, something gets angled, etc. I always fix the prob but it frustrates me at first.

When I did D2K I removed the speaker panel ad lower bezel bracket and all the holes lined up perfect. However, when I went to reinstall the CP and the Bezel it was like "WTF"... From there, I had to tweak the pieces.

DK3 in Red looks great!

great work, thats how I remember playing Dk3 in a red cab
one day when I find a cab thats exactly how I want to restore it

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Phet- I got the side art at mamemarquees believe it or not. It actually looks awesome for a inkjet repro. This cab actually went right back together with zero issues.
I was surprised because every Nintendo I have done has been a pain in the ass to reassemble. For some reason everything went right on this one. Everytime I seemed to be missing a screw or mech faceplate bolt or something, I had a spare in my extra parts bin, it was weird.

Very Impressive! The cab looks brand new. I may have to try that vinyl on my DKjr if I ever get around to it. -Barry

Any tutorials around on the vinyl installation?

I will be doing a red DK restore at some point in 2010 and wondering about vinyl versus paint ...

P.S. Great job! That thing came out gorgeous!

That looks fantastic, Greg! Right up there with your MB! You do great work, that cab looks absolutely perfect. The sideart looks incredible for inkjet... I know Mamemarquees did good work, but that is just... wow! Your Nintendo row is shaping up! ;)
