This took waaaaay to long to get just right. A big part of the reason is because I had a massive hard disk crash right in the middle of the config and lost everything. But man, I love the Hyperspin. Very nice. I can post a video later if anyone is interested but it's probably not much different than what you can see on their website.

It's to bad that, you know, I couldn't copy this for anyone because, you know, it's stricly against the Mame policy and all but yeah.

Basically, I got the roms through the mail, downloaded all the video samples from emuMovies, downloaded all the themes, set up and installed and configured everything. Removed all the adult, mahjong and gambling roms, turned off all the clones, set it up so that the OK screens don't ever come on (I had to write a script to trick it into thinking all the games had already been played once to make that work), wired in the extra buttons, adjusted the monitor, etc. etc. etc.

And the sad thing is that this isn't even my game. I did all this for a guy I know and had no idea how many hours I would put into it. But I saved it to my external drive so I can move it to my other Mame cabs. Feel free to PM me if, you know, you have any questions or anything.

It takes quite a bit of storage.

That is VERY impessive - well done....

Thanks. But the credit goes to the folks at Hyperspin and emuMovies and all the people who donated time making themes, etc. They did an amazing job. All I did was install the thing and spend some time setting it up.

I've gotten several PM's about this already and I will answer them all individually. But the questions about how fast of a computer it needs and memory requirements and all that....well...I'm going to refer you back to their web site for those specs because I don't know.

I will say that I also have ran it on a couple older machines and the animations were a bit sluggish but they still worked fine. And you can customize how much animation there is pretty easily or even turn it off if necessary.

I'll try to remember to look at the specifications on this PC to give you an idea of what I'm using.

Is all that's on there mame?
Why didn't you use the Wheel art?
I love Hyperspin, I'm just starting to set it up myself

Dang it...that's funny, I had the wheel art on there and I made some changes and lost it. And I didn't even notice. So I guess I'm not done yet after all. I gotta go fix that! And yeah, I didn't install any other emulators besides Mame. It would be cool to have a Daphne setup but I don't have more time to mess with it right now.

Very nice! I'm eventually going to set up my mame cab to run Hyperspin. Are you using an arcade monitor with that set up? You can eliminate the "OK" screens by recompiling mame with a special patch - at least you used to be able to do that... I've kinda lost touch with the latest mame developments.

Yeah it's a standard 25" arcade monitor. Wells Gardner. And yeah, you can recompile it but then any time you upgrade you have to go through that again. By creating the .cfg files with a script, they are there forever even if I upgrade. I do still allow the OK files on games that still have "issues" and aren't emulated properly though. I think I would have to recompile to get rid of those.

Nice John! I'm going to have to come check it out again some time soon. ;)

I've been messing around with it lately since you introduced me to it. It's actually the easiest MAME FE I've ever worked with. I feel like other FEs still seem raw and unfinished and kind of complicated to configure and customize. Although downloading content and configuring Hyperspin can be time consuming, it's super easy to install and customize. Best of all, the end result is the nicest FE you'll ever see. The amount of time Circo and others spent on this project is amazing. I tip my hat to them as well.

Looks nice. Did you setup the system so that when you turn it on, it hides the bootscreen and Windows startup completely? In other words, does it go directly to Hyperpin?

No I didn't. I'll leave that up to my friend to take care of if it's important to him. It never mattered much to me because when I have people over I turn the games all on before anyone gets here. Plus I like to manually start it...not sure why. Sometimes I wish we still crank started cars too. Not very often though.

And just to be clear....I have received a number of PM's asking if I would sell my configuration and setup. The answer is absolutely not. The purpose of the post was simply to show what can be done with Hyperspin and how cool I thought it turned out.

I've also had several questions about how much storage it takes. I'll double-check that amount a bit later and post that as well as the hardware specs of the machine I'm running it on.

it's a visually-pleasing menu interface for sure.
i didn't know all that art & animation was available.
somebody spent some time on all that.

but.. is it not rather sluggish to browse the list?
that can be a bit of a trade-off on these things.

It doesn't seem sluggish to me. If you move the joystick up and down it clicks through them pretty rapidly one at a time. You don't have to wait for all the animation to redraw....just click again and it moves on and it's very responsive.

If you move the joystick left and right then it will move to the beginning of the previous or next letter. If you hold it left or right then it will let you step through the letters very quickly.

It also has a Genres feature that I can show you if you are interested so you can drill down into all the fighters, maze games, hockey games, etc. I set it up to be entirely controllable from the original buttons installed on the game so there's hot-keys to do things like exit from the game, pause the game, go into genres, and all that.

If he wants to hide windows completely, then he should use Instantsheller, that is a great tool.

About Hyperspin, can you add and delete games to/from a favourites list with a button push?

And you're right about not selling your cfg. I believe Hyperspin is quite easy to setup, even with all the art.

ermmmm......mail order roms? clearly you have internet. why didnt you simply use pleasuredome to download them? for future reference you can use pleasuredome to update the set you just bought.
