I've been gearing up for a Multi-Williams for a while now... but one of the things that's been holding me back is the need to drill a 3rd hole in the CP for a 49-way joystick to fully play some of the games in the kit... didn't like how that would look.
I just wanted to do a 49-way for the left joystick and have it work as a 49-way for the games that use it, and an 8/2 way for the other games.
Well, I've had the parts for a while, and the schematics already drawn up...
But I finally got around to putting one together to fully test it. It looks like a bag of crap, but she works. I originally did in on bread board, but it was just too bulky to test... so I finally bit the bullet and put it on perf board and quickly wired it up (with jumpers JUST in case I was wrong about what inputs I needed. It's still a little too big to be mounted on the joysticks board... but this is just the prototype, I'll probably us it as is for a while until I get the extra money to have an actual PCB made for it. The board is already designed, and it's only 1" by 1" there, plenty small enough to mount to the corner of the board... or small enough to put a connector on it and plug it inline with the 49-way input on JROK's board... either or.
I know no one else was really concerned about it, so I doubt I'll get too many extras made when I do finally get around to it. The issue doesn't really seem to bother anyone else besides me. But, I just thought it was neat, and felt like doing a post about it.
I don't have the output wires in place in this picture.
