For years, I've seen many threads about folks who find a curbside cab that only needed a fuse.

Anything I've ever gotten for free was a clapped-out mess that needed a total tear down or was completely empty.

So one night I saw a Pac-Man's arcade party, presented as non-working for free. I noticed that it was posted less than 15 minutes before so I sent a message basically telling them that I have a truck and heard nothing.

My area is very populated and anything close to a great deal is swooped up instantly so I had no expectations.

The next day I got a reply and I was off on an after-work 3 hour round trip. Had a lot of time to think about how to repair it if the monitor or PCB was bad, etc.

Got to the pickup and was shocked. A bit of cobwebs and some minor wear, but otherwise in great cosmetic shape. I loaded it up and took it home.

Decided not to plug it in until I could open it up and take a look. Later that night, when I got a chance, I inspected it and found it complete and really nothing to explain why it didn't work, no blown fuse, nothing at all.

Plugged it in and from information here I knew the startup takes a bit, really only about 30-45 seconds.

Literally nothing wrong with it. The volume knob was a bit sticky, but deoxit fixed that. This is a real score for me and a fun addition!

Yes it's an lcd and emulator, but it's licensed and it's a real cab, made of 3/4 particle board and very well made.

Might drop in a in-line scan line generator, but besides that it just needs a bit of cleaning!

cool score, congrats! it's always fun getting something for free, especially when they work. I took delivery of one of these but it was a cocktail, I unboxed it and finished putting it together which wasn't much, does it have the sticker that looks like a coin door? It was delivered to me to deliver to a customer, that customer called me a year later saying that the monitor had stopped working but they could hear it playing (luckily it was under warranty) so my supplier ordered the monitor and sent it to me, and I went to install it. When I got there (very wealthy family, we had to take the service entrance) to replace the monitor they said " one day we came up here and the screen wasn't on" I asked, "did you ever turn it off since I delivered it?" they said No. I showed them where the power switch was when I delivered it, but they just let it run 24/7 for a year LOL. I played it a bit before delivery, fun game to have in a line up. LCD or not, plays good.
