Final value fee on shipping? Are you serious Ebay??

Obviously I'm outta the loop. Just sold some stuff on ebay and see I now get nicked with fees on the shipping even though I charge less or exact shipping costs?? Obviously I haven't used them for awhile......what a joke.

Yeah, their whole business model is about charging percentages over and over. It is amazing how much more they charge than back in the day.

I hear EBay owns Paypal... Requiring PayPal gives them one more percentage to rake in.

Selling on eBay is a total joke now. If you try to sell a tested working pcb there, buyers will just claim it didn't work, and maybe send you back their dead board in exchange. As a seller you no longer have much recourse.

It's rough but basically you have to build it into the price now and just offer free shipping and try to get ahead of it that way. Before the change people would sell things for 99 cents with $28.75 shipping, enforcement was inconsistent, you get the idea. Not defending eBay's parasitic seller fee levels but I can at least see the rationale behind this particular change.

been that way for a while. it's a good change for buyers and that's who ebay is geared towards. sellers will sell on ebay regardless, they have no choice, so it makes sense to tip things in favor of the buyers.

I know, right? Like for instance, if you buy something, just say you never received it. Ebay gives you your fees back. Or, here's a good one to tip it in the favor of buyers: Just tell the seller you're going to leave them negative feedback if they dont' give you a refund! That's always funny.

Or how about this old classic: Just say it was broke, then send back an empty box. Show the tracking number to ebay and they automatically refund your money now! Tip it towards the buyer!

buyers have the ability to cheat the system, sellers have the ability to cheat the system - nothing new there. Ebay would rather make sure sellers aren't cheating them, as it's the sellers they have in their grip.

It's a good change. Before, sellers would offer an item as BIN for a penny, plus $30 in shipping. Not only would they cheat ebay from any fees on the sale, they would also be top of the search list for cheapest price. It made it hard for us honest sellers to price things properly with reasonable shipping, since our listings would get buried. It's basically a fee on the entire amount collected, instead of the selling amount.

If it was such a good change, eBay would be thriving but it's not. It is a joke compared to what it was five years ago. Take care of the problem sellers, not the good ones! No wonder so many people use CL now. eBay has totally forgotten what made them great. I have no problem with them getting a fair cut with PayPal and eBay. Like the 6-8% it used to be. Now your looking at around 15%! If eBay was doing so good they wouldn't be raising the percentages they take on an auction. I for one will be avoiding using them if possible.

I wish it was 15% for me. By the time I pay listing fees, final value, paypal etc, i'm at 20-21% of my total cost. What bugs me even more, is I do my best to shave off $3 to $10 of the Shipping cost. As I ship everything with tracking. Just so i'm covered if after 3 days a persons like I haven't received it.

Oh the funnest thing I've learned to do when a buyer seems shifty. You can tell by some of the emails they send. I'll take the item to the post office, have my wife record me packing it there, then pay for it, etc. This has saved me a few hundred on claims this year alone. I can't believe how dishonest some people become on eBay can be.

Then you have the people that say it arrived broken. You offer then a percentage off, so you don't get 1's on your DSR. They wont even provide pictures of the item broken, and they insist your 30% back is an insult. They proced to give you 1's on your DSR file a claim. Ebay goes in their favor. Ebay then tells them they will refund if you ship it back. They never did, cause they said it was to much of an in-convince. So I still have the money, but I still have a single negative and a set of 1's. All because the lady said she didn't know the difference between CM and Inch. I'm Canadian and it was listed on ebay.ca.

I've concluded that it was because it was some idiot from ebay.com that had no clue what cm meant either.

I blame President Ford for failing to convert the US to the Metric System. LOL

In that case I agree, but for categories like DVDs and video games where eBay sets the Max price you can charge, you shouldn't get charged fees there as you can't overcharge and do that.

It's a terribly flawed system now. A fellow that has a storage unit near mine was telling me the other day of his latest (and probably last) ebay fiasco. He sells Bridgeport Millers...for those who don't know they are massive milling machines, roughly the size of a sit-down driver-only MUCH heavier. Long story short he sold the machine on ebay and added the shipping cost which was around 750.00 door to door. He got nailed for the 750.00 fee which by the way, did NOT go into his pocket-it went to the shipper. So tell me again why that is 'fair' to be charging the buyer that fee? Ebay has to go-period. They are the greediest, most short-sighted entity on the internet. They used to be great back in the day, now they are the worst! Oh, and to the supporters of ebay, just give it time....you WILL be screwed at some point and smarten up. Hopefully it'll be an item that you can afford to lose or give away for free. It will happen, though.

Danny thats why I started selling on amazon. You still have fees, but they give you a shipping credit for each item. Still not cheap, but better than ebay.

Thank you President Ford. :D

Now if we could have converted American beer to Canadian you guys might have had something.

Yeah I hear its like water down there. As a kid I could never understand how on US TV, every person could down a 40oz. I was like, how are they not shit faced. If your looking for a strong commercially made beer from Canada, I do believe moosehead is available in all 50 states. If it has a green label / Lager, its an average beer. I have to stop or I'll start writing a story about all their beers.

Sorry OP, don't mean to derail your thread.

Remember/don't remember a lot of nights in Canada and Molson XXX plus so many other great beers. ;)

I wouldn't drink any beer that these knuckleheads would drink.

Danny, I forgot to tell you I now charge storage fees when you have people drop machines off at my house for you.... it was in the last email update in case you didn't read it.
