So, I FINALLY beat Final Fantasy 2 (for the NES) last night, and need to figure out where to go next. I've already beaten FF1 & FF2 (NES), and FF2, FF3 & Mystic Quest (SNES). I haven't played any others.

So, should I play FF7 (PS1)?

Skip ahead to FF10/12/13/x2/whatever?

Or buy the Wii downloadable Crystal Chronicles?

Is there something I'm overlooking?

I need to know how best to waste the next 20 hours or so of my life...

Thanks.

If you have a 360 A bunch of my friends and I have been hooked on FFXI. Really not a fan of FF but this game rocks. It can be played on a ps2 or computer too and all play together online no matter what you play it on.

7 is the best, 8 was a great game, 9 not so much. 10 was awesome (first with speech) though not as long, I just finished it again though. 11 is an online multiplayer and I havent been able to get into it, Shred is it decent??? 12, was different, It was turn based but you could run around and such during fighting. 13 isnt out which should be cool, 14 is on its way to but its gonna be like 11 where its an mmo I think *either 14 or 13*

how is mystic quest, it came with my newly acquired snes and I havent touched it

Sounds more like an MMO than an RPG? I enjoy the single player quest type games. Something that can be finished so I can move on, not get sucked into some WOW spiral that no one can pull themselves out of. :)

StreetzKing I love it. allot of people are still playing it for a 5 year old game. Not a solo game though like wow can be and is meant to be played with other people (partying)...
Very easy to meet people in the game and get into linkshells which are kind of like clans.

There is allot of stuff you can do in the game as far as crafting and or fishing. Quest are kind of weird and hard to understand but the internet makes them easy to follow. The game is also not easy and also a little hard to pick up and just play unless you know someone. First time I popped in the game I was now what? Where do I go what do I do? The worlds are huge too. Once you figure stuff out though the game can be addicting.

My friends wanted to do something different and not play another first or third person shooters which are getting old and all the same , but something we could play together. I am not a fan of Final fantasy or mmo's so I was against it. But holly crap I am hooked like I was in the 80's to video games, so is everyone I am playing with.

I'm leaning towards FF7. If they're all decent, I might as well play them in order. I think there may be another SNES game (japanese?), but I'm not sure.

I'm not going to jump to the latest at this point. I'll work my way up...

Honestly, I remember it being childish. I think you had 3 people in your party, and you could see the monsters, which annoyed me. Coming after FF2 (which I thought was great), Mystic Quest was a letdown. I did finish the game, so it didn't suck so much that I stopped playing, though.

if you dont like that you can see the monsters, stay away from FF12.

Also, I might try it out for the hell of it, 2 and 3 are up there in price right now but ill keep an eye out. FF7 was one of the greatest games, my first save file was around 140 hours and wasnt complete. thinking back on the game I hate it because it was so big (its a love hate relationship) its incredible how much was packed into that game. Mastering materia was long as shit and was something on the side. All the weapons like Ruby, Emerald *needed a huge quest to be able to fight him*, Diamond, and more. Chocobo breeding to get knights of the round materia. Battle Arena for Omnislash. OMG SO MUCHHHH

FF8 Was also long as hell, first save file hitting well over 100 hours also introduced games like the card battles, very addicting once you learn how to play, something fun on the side. Great story, more mature than the others.

FF9 Was back to childish things, Long game as well but didnt touch FF7 in terms of content. It was a decent story, I wasnt hooked but I played it a couple times.

FF10. First save file was like 73 hours, then I ended up beating it with every goal (ultimate weapons, etc) in 24 hours. Still amazing, just finished it again like I said. First with speech, and blitzball!

Another vote for 7, the best EVER! Involving story line, fun side games, challenging. STILL never beat that weapon. Awesome game!

Someday I'll go back and finish X.

Just being honest - FF VII is awful. VIII is Emo, and broken (you can iffrit Grind in the beginning and beat everything in 1-2 hits). IX is ok, but not amazing. X is all right. XI - not worth your time. In general - the 'new' FF titles are terrible compared to the classics (I-VI). 3D and graphic whoring really hurt the series.

FF 1 is great. FF III (NES) is great - find a translation for it - or try the DS version. It is very similar to I, except more jobs and a little harder.

If you are really into the stories, then FF V is not bad. IV and VI are the best 'story' games - and you've already played them - V is similar, but brings back the class type system from FF I/III.

Final Fantasy Tactics was a great game. (and I do mean 'was'). It didn't age well - it's incredibly slow and takes forever to get through battles/etc. The story was great and the gameplay was awesome for it's time. It is still the best FF game of the 3D era.

Honestly - I know it isn't FF - but if you haven't played Chrono Trigger - get that. It's better than all of the final fantasy games -and the story and gameplay is amazing.

saying 7 is awful? your one of those guys who needs to bash something great to get attention? Lets hear why its awful.

And Chrono Trigger is great for the snes.

I have the FF3 translated rom somewhere. I played chrono trigger years ago - I can try It again but it doesn't seem very exciting to me. Maybe it will suck me in...

With FF7 I remember spells taking forever every fight. But I've heard a lot of good things about it...

Summons can take some time, but thats every new FF game and at the time it was incredible the animations they put out. There is like 3% of people who played it who hate it. If rpg's are your thing then I have no reason at all to believe people dont like FF7. It still to this day is one of the greatest video games released. If Sony was smart they would remake it for the ps3 but thats a story in itself. The game was huge (in game I mean) There is a lot to do and the story was amazing. For me growing up on NES and not playing Chrono Trigger or games like that besides the early FF games and maybe zelda, FF7 was the most incredible thing I have ever seen.

I may be the person to ask when it comes to Role playing games!!:D

FF7 was such a big difference from the earlier NES games, it starts out boring and gets better, and was the only one I was not able to win. I would always get past the first version of the boss and get annihilated when he comes back... it has been a while but it was good.

FF8 was also good... FF9 was as well... one had a cool card game that I liked to play as well... but it was tedious trying to get them all.

I did not like it when it changed over to the versions w/the dress spheres and really did not play them at all.

FF12 was an awesome game once you get used to the gameplay... it was really neat because you could explore many areas ahead of when you are supposed to in the story line... fun to do and cool to see if you can do it and survive!!:D

Going back to the SNES era... Chrono Cross (or was it Chrono Trigger) they were good, the Dragon Warrior series was good, Breath of Fire 1 & 2 were good, and one of my favorites was Lufia Rise of the Sinistrals which comes complete w/a 99 level dungeon!! Talk about a time waste there... the dungeon changes every time you go down... and it will let you take out special treasures which make the rest of the battles much easier!!

Early PS1 are plentiful. One of my favorites was Arc the Lad, it was a series of 3 games, but #2 was an amazing game! Dragon Quest 7 was a blast, but has no real replay value... So many good RPG's!!

Good luck wasting time!!:p

Not that anyone cares (probably), but I'm playing FF 3 for the NES. I don't quite understand the job system (the game wants you to change jobs for certain abilities, but to do so you need to re-assign different armor, weapons, etc), so I've largely ignored it :) So far, I'm liking it overall...seems to be a big jump from the original FF toward the SNES FF2, such as...

- If you attack an enemy that runs away, the system will automatically attack a remaining enemy

- Magic is stronger (it was worthless in FF2 for NES)

- Much more in depth storyline

So, I'd recommend it to anyone that liked the FF series. I'm playing it using the NEStopia emulator, if you're wondering.

FF7 will come next...

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions.

ahh nestopia, brings back memories haha. I wanna pick up FF2 and 3 for snes but there like 40 a piece now. That could go towards jammaboards!! haha I might pick up 3

SNES9x will run them. Or BSNES. I'm sure there are others.

Also, I think they were re-released on playstation (with Chrono Trigger?), so that may be a cheaper option for you.
