anyone picking this up at midnight? or tomorrow for that matter. I am. All the reviews are crappy if your looking for a sequel but im just looking for a decent rpg on xbox so im happy, and I love the series so I hope there something in it for me. Anyone?

I'm not, already playing through Mass Effect 2 for my (pseudo) RPG fix, but I do have a co-worker who's taking a personal day tomorrow to play it all day.

Nope, not any more. I haven't enjoyed a FF game since the 16 bit era, though I've bought them all up to X-2.

havent played FF after 9.... 7 was the best!!!

+1 on VII being the best. They were considering doing a remake, but it wouldn't be anything but a bastardization of the original. They will never top it. It's like Nintendo trying to top Ocarina of Time, it's never going to happen. You can't perfect perfection.

XIII looks like a pretty sweet game, but from what I heard it's like the Avatar of video games - all graphics and visuals with not much more to offer. But I would think it would be a decent and interesting play if one were to pick it up.

I could argue that, but here's not the place, I guess :) Personally, I couldn't stand OoT and would rather play WW or TP any day. But I guess that's just me.

Yeah, everyone has their own personal Zelda favorites. I feel OoT was the best ever, but that's just me (and probably thousands of other people :p).

But don't get me wrong, all the other games are great as well. I loved Minish Cap for GBA and WW, TP, PH, etc. We could go on and on debating which was best, but it's one of those debates that never ends.

We can all agree that Zelda games are awesome though, right? :D

Zelda discussion over. End of line.

I loved the original FF as well as FF 3 (US version) on the SNES.I couldn't really get into 7 or 8. I beat FF 10,and I enjoyed it,but I wouldn't call it the greatest RPG ever like the Japanese do. Plus it was really easy. I do like the FF series, but I'd prefer to play my favorite RPG series, the Dragon Quest series, although I'm probably way,way in the minority.

I don't have time to play a 25 hour POS so I can get to the real 25 hour game that's fun ;) It looks pretty though, I'd like to at least see it in action for a bit.

Yeah,I'm not a big fan of RPGs loaded up with side quests and mini games.A few are okay, but it seems like 50% of the hours you log playing a current gen RPG are spent on them.No thanks.

Yeah, I saw the reviews, and it's convinced me not to buy this game - mainly because I have an Xbox 360, and it's inferior to the PS3 version (PS3 was the lead platform, of course). It runs at a lower res, doesn't make good use of the 360's features, and the cutscenes are compressed and compressed badly. So it's a bad port, basically.

It looks like they've dumbed down the combat to such a degree you can just keep punching the 'auto' button and the game will play itself. There are no towns, you only control one character in combat, and they've dumbed down any character customisation.

And it apparently railroads you through 20 hours of completely linear plot before you get to make any real choices.

So it just looks like a bunch of pretty cutscenes, with a few vaguely interactive battles... It doesn't look bad, it just doesn't look good enough.

Looks like one to miss... I think I'll go for Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origins first...

so. three hours into it. heres my thoughts

I am taking my time with it btw lol.

Starts off slow in terms of battling, its just use the a/x button the whole time because you have nothing else you can play with. At the 2.5hr mark you finally earn the paradigm shifts and your skill grid so you can start learning new spells and you have many many options during battle.

The paradigm shifts are pretty cool, its how you control the other characters in battle, There are lots of possibilities with this, you can also customize and create new ones. What these do is set how your characters play, ex. healer/attacker/magic/defense. you can change these on the fly in the battle which is something you need to do pending the situations.

There is no way you would be able to control the whole team due to the way the battles take place, so controlling one is not a let down at least to me. The battles keep you paying attention mostly, there is an auto button but you can change this so its not your default command (meaning on top of command list). The way the atb works is very well in my opinion, I like it a lot.

The story so far is piecing together slowly but surely, many cutscenes which can be skipped and paused. The graphics are amazing for the 360, I havent seen a game look this good on the system. I like the way the story is going so far, and yes it feels like a final fantasy game, I don't understand why they said it doesnt when there isnt one ff that had anything to do with the last.

overal I am very happy so far, three discs on xbox, I think one for ps3, so should be big, I know its at minimum like 25 hours. but like I said, im very pleased, I think the step forward was definitely in the right direction.

and character customization is there definitely, the skill grid can go whichever way you want it to pending your paradigm shift, so theres times you wont use part of the grid, because your character might not be a healer. all the same in terms of equipment and bangles and such as well.

Again, my opinions, I say check it out

ff13 very good im at 25 hours and it only keeps getting better. Not really 25 hour pos lol ;-). All Final fantasy games are vastly different for the most part. I thought I wouldnt like the game but it is pretty great.

It takes 30 hours to reach pulse game is about 40 hours if you dont side quest it. Once you reach pulse you will see why tthe game trains you for 20 hours its brutally hard if you dont know what your doing. The game still has leveling

There are towns that you go to although you cant go into stores ect. This is a big misconception there are towns often just not in the traditional sense.

You cannot auto battle through the game maybe for the first couple chapters but it gets very complex later on.

Since you seem to like FF13 thus far, and I'm using your review to help me decide, it would be helpful to know where you stand on other FF games. So, a quick thumbs up/thumbs down of the past FF games might give me a better understanding of where you're coming from (and if my taste run along with yours).

[I'm nearly positive you covered this in my other FF thread, which needs a good bumping. But, the information would be relevant here, too, I think.]
