Man, I am having a hard time removing these female Molex pins. The tools I have easily remove the male pins, but I there just isn't enough room to get the tools in and around the female pins.

Is there a different tool used to extract the female pins?

I tested the tools I have on a female pin (new one), and it fit around the pin nicely out of the connector, but trying to get the female pin that is already in the connector, there is just not enough space between the connector housing and the female pin for any of my available tools to push the female pin out......

I have the silver plungers like one I see in your pic that works. Sometimes they are a tight fit and you have to push a bit. Otherwise, maybe you don't have the right size? They come in a few different sizes if I remember right.

When you slide the barrel in, it depress the locking latches (sometimes take a bit of force). Then you push the plunger down to pop out the pin.

I've never heard of a different tool to pull out Male vs Female pins.

I've had trouble with female pins before because there isn't enough room to get some leverage on the tabs. I've found that if you push in on the wire (as you would to insert the pin) and then stuff the tool in there and wiggle back and forth it makes it easier to bend down the tabs. Mostly because the tabs are not seated against the back of the molex connector. It's not exactly easy since it kinda requires 3 hands but eventually you get used to the process. I've also put the connector into some sort of clamp to make it easier but that's not always available.

The key is to get the tabs off of the back of the molex connector.

those look like .084 connectors and if your having a problem removing them your tool may be a .093 which will not work well. i stock the original molex spring loaded and a cheaper model of the .084 on my site if you need. i don't have the super expensive amp version but these work well.

Try turning the tool a full 180 degrees before popping the plunger down.
That worked for me when you get those stubborn ones.

I usually have to wiggle and turn the pin remover ,almost like a key, to get it to slide over the female pins.
The male ones, as you said, are a breeze

I agree with this. I think you have .084 connector, not .093 which is the tools you have.

You can try and make those work.

1. you got to work it
2. you got to be a "man" about it

>> use the right tool; move it around so the lock pins are squeezed; push wire into connector; adjust tool downwards; then pull wire/pin out ...

That's because that is NOT a Molex brand connector. Your picture shows an AMP brand "Universal Mate N LoK" connector. It uses .084" size terminals.

That could be an AMP Universal Mate-N-Lok part number 1-480708-0
Or it could be a Molex 42021 series, part number 50-84-1120

These two are mostly interchangeable and look identical.
The only visual difference is in the lock. The Molex locks have rectanglar holes completely through sides of the locks and at base of locks, the AMP locks have solid sides (holes don't go completely through) and only has the rectangular holes at base of locks. Only way to tell is to look at the locks from an end view of the connector.

Regardless -- it is a 0.084" connector.
That blue handled tool in middle of second photo. Flip him over and let's see part number.

They can be a real pain in the ass to remove.before I bought my molex removal tool I would just stick a tiny flathead screw driver up there to bend back the taps. I have cut my hands up before getting them out. I would stuff that screwdriver up there and really work it all around. Then push it out with the screw driver.
Then I got smart and ordered a molex brand one from mouser. It's read not blue like yours but wow I thought I died and gone to heaven.

Good luck
Chad

I offer these to remove the mate-lok pins & sockets...

I sell the Molex version .. they work fine but have really gotten expensive, especially for the 0.084" extractor.
We use this same AMP contact extractor at work -- quite slick and costs less than the Molex version. Not sure what is happening with Molex last few years... I think they're trying to price themselves out of existence.

Molex extractors:
0.062" = green
0.084" = red
0.093" = yellow

That's why I was wondering what the blue one was.
