Has anyone noticed Fedex rates increasing dramatically lately? I would expect some increase due to fuel rates, but I sent a small 4lb package last night and it was $17. I was expecting to pay $10-12 based on past shipments.

A year or two ago, I could send a large & heavy package for that same amount.

I've been exclusively using Fedex for years, but maybe it's time to look into other shipper?

fed ex

almost all packs have a min of about $10
then they have a secret formula they add on from there which includes and charges for:
no. lbs
dim weight
secret fuel surcharge
how far out of norm routes

the last can add $5 or more sometimes,

even with above they are still at least 20% cheaper than ups and they pay claims fast and easy, and have alot less claims to begin with, as they handle everything in a gentle fashion compared to ups, usps

I really like their service. I've had zero issues with anything I have sent. I guess I'll keep using them, but I'll have to up the prices a bit on my "$xx shipped" sales do I don't get screwed over.

I use them all the time. Are you talking Ground or Express? I've seen the Fedex fuel surcharge jump as high as 30%, but drop right back down shortly after. But as stated above, there are many factors, dim wieght, how far off the beaten path etc. But does seem like a big jump. I would have asked for a breakdown.

They are great for bulky packages. Shipped a package from CA to CO that was 28 lbs 44"x19"x9" for $32. I thought that was pretty cheap. USPS probably would not take it and UPS would charge double and destroy the package.
