Maybe we can share this thread to all Facebook groups? Because this is getting ridiculous. Please and thank you
Even if this guy poses no risk ever (which I feel he still definitely does), he's stolen tens of thousands of dollars from fellow collectors over many years, and I think it's shameful enough to be buying from him, let alone waving him around like he's a great guy that thousands of people can trust - people don't get an entire KLOV section and dozens of threads dedicated to them by being good people.
Travis/Adam/RAM Controls is still at it, and in some ways is more famous on Facebook than ever. These days he is often getting shoutouts in Facebook groups, has started his own Facebook group (see joeycuda's thread here: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=458734), has many Facebook friends/friends of well-known and respected community members.
Bolding this for any potential Facebook readers... Unfortunately most do not realize this guy has been doing this for decades, and his M.O. is selling legit for a while, then pulling the plug once he's gained trust under that alias and scamming the living hell out of everybody. Orrrrrrr, his next favorite, which he's done in the past, screwing all of his European customers while properly serving his American customers to keep his reputation up and legal issues non-existent, leaving a situation where about 1,000 Europeans call him out and 1,000 Americans rush to defend him, leaving everybody confused and Americans, at the very least, feeling confident in reliability of their continued purchases even if not happy with his actions. The perfect strategy, really
It is bizarre to me that the most notorious scammer of all time across KLOV, dating back to 2000 in the newsgroups, and has scammed enough people to warrant his very own KLOV section and dozens of threads, is now being highly lauded on Facebook, many by people who know exactly what he's done and are even members here.
I have noticed a weird uptick lately in people tagging him in posts and recommending him, especially among authority figures in Facebook groups. I wouldn't be surprised if he's offering these people some kind of discount, free items, or just plain $$$ in exchange for the good word. (Or maybe just killing them with kindness/sob stories) Sure, he appears to be actually providing products lately, likely naturally accumulating some good praise, but the level of that is coming up lately is a little... unnatural, even for somebody making good products. Especially since a lot of it is coming from authority figures, people well known and trusted, and even worse guys who know who exactly who he is. People I didn't think would trust him whatsoever, let alone buy from him, let alone attach their name to his name.
Do I think they're all in on it? No way. I'm sure many of them are clueless and just happy to offer a good word to some guy they think is actually a good guy, who's providing product. in exchange for free shit. I'm not here to shit on Facebook group admins and users because I'm sure a good majority of them are clueless, but some do know full-well.
But it is odd to me because a lot of these guys DO know, and not only refuse to remove them from their groups, buy from him themselves, but actually are going out of there way to offer him praise.
I mean I can think Michael Jackson is completely innocent, buy his album for myself, but I still probably wouldn't recommend him as babysitter for thousands of people who trust me, let alone attach my name to it. Considering most arcade guys are unforgiving as hell, it's bizarre. Perhaps I am sounding like a conspiracy theorist but figured I'd post and let people draw their own conclusions.
These guys usually ban people from very little offenses (or sometimes nothing at all besides just being a pain in the ass) just to avoid the drama, so I find it odd he's not only allowed in, but they are actually resistant towards anybody who informs them of his history and suggests he be removed, and he has been removed from very little Facebook groups.
The way a lot of these guys are writing about him also just feels really unnatural and requested by Travis. Some of them read like blatant advertisements. There's more not shown.
Note his account is tagged in all of the posts as well but I have him blocked so it appears as plain-text
As I continued to search for his name, it really started to concern me that many of the names making the almost advertise-y posts started to match up to ownership/adminship of the groups. I know some of these guys know his past, some I'm not sure. Just some examples of the heavy and fully-public praise from group owners, as recent as a few weeks ago:
At this point, having no prior knowledge of this next group or the poster, I had noticed a pattern enough to jokingly tell somebody next to me "Look, here's our next admin in the conspiracy", not realizing I would actually be correct on that assumption... he was indeed one of the few admins among the 2,500+ users in the group. It was actually hard to find very many recommendations that weren't done by group admins
At this point, I decided to check personal profiles and realized all 4 of these guys and most other group owners were personal Facebook friends with him - not only were they personal customers of his, had offered him a recommendation to the masses, but they, along with most of the most popular group owners, were Facebook friends with Travis, and all in all, I am suspecting he initiated these online friendships in an attempt to build trust in the Facebook community using these admins. Whether these third parties were aware of his past or not is not a point I am trying to make and I am not attempting to shame any group admins, as I'm sure some of them didn't know... (but to be fair, many have been alerted over the years and have refused to act, or are current or former KLOV members and have known all along, yet somehow sleep at night offering a recommendation and having the world's biggest creep, under a fake name, watching all of their family moments on their personal Facebook accounts)
etc.
etc.
