There's been several threads on this through the years but for some reason it doesn't come up when I try searching. Anyhoo, after about 7 years or so in the hobby and some periodic b1tching by my better half... I finally got a chance to experience "it" :)

We celebrated our oldest son's 7th Birthday this past weekend.. it was a total blast. A ton of kids ages 4-8... a couple of Pinata's, donut eating contest, 500 water balloons, nerf guns, water pistols, baby swimming pool with makeshift boats, bikes, scooters and Pizza...

I had been working hard since the start of the year with a goal of getting the games fully operational and looking good in time for this party. Well, once the door to the garage opened and the games were powered on... Dads, Moms and kids were sucked in... I got a few of the routine "wow this is amazing" and "is this your business?" comments..

But my favorite reactions were the one's my wife observed:
------------------------------------------------------
Several mom's called their husbands and older kids, telling them they had to come over and play.. A couple even left the party to bring back their families.

At one point, I told the kids if they were wet they couldn't enter the gameroom...well my wife saw one kid drying off with a towel and doing a dance and singing "I get to go to the gameroom...."

One of the dads was gushing about how he used to repair these games as a kid and that is what inspired him to get into engineering. He never left the gameroom until it was time to leave.

Of course my favorite was that of my wife Sara. She was actually impressed by the reactions and mebbe won't nag me so much about this insanely great hobby (well I can dream can't I?) :D
------------------------------------------------------------
What are some of the reactions you guys have gotten? Lets hear them! :)

What a great story !!!! Thank's for posting. When my wife said I was insane for buying the Tron pinball, she almost got the divorce papers out...j/k but she wasn't too happy, since I have had it she plays it more than I do, and wants to buy more pins :) I love this hobby !!!

Great story fatherpain.....

I've had similar reactions from neighbor kids and families over during Halloween parties.

I think I've had more reactions outside of the gameroom when I have games in the back of my truck, or on my driveway. I live on a busy street near a junior college and can't tell you how many people slow to a stop, only to share stories of the gaming prowess, games they had, or want, even games they have in need of repair. Even young kids that were too young to experience anything but redemption games still go ape shit when they see a game cabinet. It's something miraculous that a child who never has played an arcade game suddenly knows it must be fun even if its off and sitting in the back of my truck.

"You must be rich" is always a fun one.

By far. It's when My dad talks to me like I'm ten again and "I'm wasting my time and money. "Haha

Games can be the great equalizer.... funny story Vector. My (now ex) did the same thing and still has her own set of arcade games at her new place. Hey, at least I passed the addiction on. It's funny how women change their tone once they open themselves up and realize games are not evil....

Well, except for Juno First.

I had guy come over to pick up his kid. When I answered the door I told him his son was in my game room and that he should check it out. He entered the room and his jaw dropped he would go from game to game saying the funniest stuff. He would touch my DL and say why? How? Than go to Missile Com Why? How? This isn't true? Speaking in incomplete sentences he did this from game to game why? How? This can't be true? I about peed my pants. Needles to say the guy stayed another couple hours, his kid was happy about that. LOL

But most walk in see the games and say cool than shortly after get quiet, they are probably think I am completely nuts!

LMAO on Juno First ;) Sorry about the ex wife thing, at least you sprinkled her with some arcade fairy dust.

The Birthday boy in a makeshift boat (cooler with lid removed). That's me getting ready to tip him over:

My son making Sponge Bob pay! I wish the person with the camera had taken more arcade related shots but she doesn't really like games so it couldn't have been helped, lol

...or just put the crackpipe down. ;) Pretty much my entire family and all but 1 of my friends think I am out of my mind. Then they go home and do whatever worthless hobby they do and cram it all back in a shoebox or whatever. Fortunately, the games are for me not them.

LMAO that is truly, truly classic stuff! I love it!!

Great story and nice collection of games! it's always great to see others people's reactions when they see a game room full of great classics and enjoy playing them :)

Sorry to hear that AG, but that is a funny story indeed... well here's to hoping if you guys ever get back together down the road, she has had time to acquire a grail or two :D

I had a girl come over with my daughter for the first time and said wow this is better than chuck e cheese. I told her I agreed. That made my day

This is a repost from a thread of mine back in January. This was pretty priceless though.

My wife and I were out one evening and my teenage son had a few friends over who have never been out to the house. He decided to video record his friends reaction to the arcade/gameroom. The video can be a little grainy at times, but in my opinion their reactions are priceless. The games aren't turned on in the video but it's still cool to watch. Its nice to know kids are still impressed with these games even with their Xbox's and PS3's. Click the link below to view the full video.

haha, nice, let me know if you want to submit it to me for The Video Craze project i am doing :) Priceless !

I had the garage open the other day and I have all my vids and pins in there and a local kid came riding by on his bike and saw it all. Never met the kid before, but he rode up in shock and asked if I had an arcade in there. Then he proceeded to tell me I had the coolest garage ever. That brought a smile to my face.

My favorite comment was from some cousins that came up from Florida several years ago. The only other people we knew with arcade games in their house where these Mafia people that lived down the street LOL.
