Favorite Old-School Karate Game....

Winner. Karateka was awesome.

I got a Karate Champ 2-player about a month ago and love it. Only fighting game worth owning (except for maybe Primal Rage). Still haven't hit a bull.

Kung Fu Master and the others were a lot of fun, too.

And let's add some ninja's, so I can say Shinobi...

Sheesus, how were you able to type and stroke Mod's cock at the same time? Impressive.

everything's bigger in Texas, and if I'm facing the right direction, Minnesota gets the honor...

Karate Champ no contest. I play it more than any game I have. You have to hit the bull with a counter or reverse punch.

FULL POINT!

Karate Champ is still my poison of choice. They had one in the local "viddya tape" parlor in my home town of then 4000 souls and it was like my own personal "StarFighter" game. I'd go in there, stand next to the cowboy doors leading to the pr0n tapes, and play for over an hour at a time (would have been longer but my girlfriend's patience wouldn't take it). The bull never bothered me as much as those damn flower pots and bottles.

Tried it out on my kids who were raised on SFII and they never finished a single move (in Karate Champ for Phet and others who may have never played it, you have to HOLD the sticks until a move completes in order to score a hit). It takes too long for a move to complete for my kids to ever get over the Tekken method of random button smashing. They wailed on the sticks in random patterns and were quickly dispatched, wondering what kind of fatality was used on them by the game that made it possible for them to be "killed" by a single hit from the CPU. Their player looked like a challenged person, flailing about with many partial moves.

Karateka kicks ass too BTW - wasn't ever an arcade game though. I like Kicker too. Hated Yie Ar. Still do.

OK, answer me this- with all the love for Karate Champ, why can you only get like $175 for a nice one? Not that I'm selling mine, but if I did no one would want it- I promise you...

This is true. A guy on my local CL has had a Karate Champ for sale for probably 3 years now. $450, and wont budge on the price.

for true old school I would go with kung fu master. But my favorites would be shadow dancer and shinobi which came a little later.

I like Kung-Fu Master - even as repetitive as it is. Some good memories of playing that game at the 7-11 during lunch (while in High School).

it's a generic, themed marquee.
the idea was it could be a low-cost replacement
substitute for games like karate champ, yie ar kung fu, etc.
$20 is a lot more appealing to $65 when you run a tight ship.
