I'm just curious what everyone's favorite Mortal Kombat arcade is. I'm thinking Ultimate MK3 is the best to own just because of the tons of characters, but loved MK2.
Where are you all at with it???

I worked at TILT when MKII was hot. I played the heck out of it, and never got a chance to play MK3. Well I owned an MK3 but never got a chance to figure out the moves and fatalities before I got rid of it.

MKII for me

Definitely MKII no better MK game. The precise reason why it's the first cab I bought. ;) After MKII things started getting too wacky and we got dial-a-kombos. Blech.

yeah one thing I HATED about killer instinct (and maybe primal rage as well?) is the 36 hit combos? WTF is that?

Agreed. As a fighting game fan I played all of the MKs at the arcades (except MK4) but none of them have the depth of gameplay that MKII has. For PVP it's the best, and for one-player they're all pretty lousy but there were some neat skillshots to learn on MKII that no other version really gave you a chance to explore except maybe MK1.

I prefer the first one, that is the one I played the most. By the time the second one starting appearing on location I had turned 16 and I basically stopped playing video games for the next 3 years.

MKII all the way any factory revision is fine.

MKI is a close second.

and MK 3 is a great game minus the combo crap.
i wish you could turn them off. then it would be fantastic.

Wow. What a question. I mean, what does one gauge their response on? I'm going to have to get back to you...

MKII is the best followed closely by MKI. I think I've spent more $$$ and time on MKII than I wish to remember!

Mk 2

Also going with MK II, lotta great memories of playing against friends on that one and just enough characters to give everyone a favorite. Graphics were cool, the storyline offered cool info on old toons, and brought about hidden characters to fight, friendship finishesInever mastered the combos for III but II was down to a science.

I vote MKII.

Not only that, I just love the side art on that cab. Having a Raiden in the house calling lightning is just wicked.

How's your comic book collection,Brodie?

But seriously, without getting into all the different revisions I would initially have to say:
1. UMK3 - Favorite hands down.
2. MK3/MKII/MK - Three completely different games in their own rite but get nearly the same amount of attention.
3. MK4 - Up until about 6 months ago I never really liked it at all. Too many new and boring characters, the game play was awkward, and 3D and every other aesthetic to the game seems like they were trying to make it fail. I play it occasionally but it is still just ok.

MKII was the first cab I bought. I remember when it came out and I feel bad for anyone who wasn't a kid back then.. Best times in the arcades!! I have to say that I play UMK3 most though. For single player MKI and MK4 are the best because you don't have to exploit poor AI programming to beat the game. MK4 is my favorite now days. I didn't get into it till I bought the cab and there are many reasons why it's not high on anyones favorite lists but I find it fun. It's the fastest MK (especially compared to the kluncky kombat feel of MK9). It's clearly not finished though. Game really needed a sub boss and lets face it, a main boss. Also needs some hidden characters and other secrets.
