Favorite ATARI Title

I always enjoyed blasting rocks on asteroids. Never owned one though. So, I have to put my vote in the following order from back in the day when I used to drop quarters:

Battlezone
Asteroids
Pole Position
Centipede

then in the late 80s early 90s I LOVED the sit down Star Wars "Use the force Luke" - LOVE IT.

and fast forward 30 years to now:

Crystal Castles since I own it.

  1. Star Wars - Upright is nice, and I'd love to lay my hands on a cockpit version at some point (if the wife will let it into the house). Given that I was a huge fan of the original Star Wars movie, this is slam dunk.
  2. Tempest - Maybe it is my heavy math background (yeah, I'm a math nerd), but something about a game that has a ton of geometric shapes in it is really fun. Simple premise, fun to play, hard to master.
Ditto with the following:

3 - Asteroids Deluxe
4 - Centipede
5 - BattleZone

Major Havoc, followed closely by Gravitar.

You can't beat the varied gameplay and awesome cabinet of Major Havoc, and Gravitar for similar reasons.

Skydiver

1978 comin' at ya son!

I just recently played this at a buddies place and I think it's an awesome game.

I was 17 when Battlezone came out, and I still love playing it, even though I stink at it. Now my almost 17 (March 7) year old is challenging me on it almost daily.

If I owned a Star Wars it would be #1.

Rush 2049 is Atari eh? Hands down my favorite Atari game, though I don't own two of them yet (what fun is just one?).
As far as what I do own, Rush The Rock is my fav, followed closely by Asteroids - that game pisses me off so much I really like it!

Star Wars is my #1. I have an upright and would probably offer up a kidney for a cockpit. I still remember the first time I walked into an arcade back in the early 80s and saw a Star Wars cockpit- I thought it was about the coolest thing ever made, and still do..... someday ....... ah...yes......someday.........

Let me see.... A few of my favorite Atari titles are:

Rolling Thunder
Gauntlet
Pole Position
Dig Dug
Centipede
Paperboy
APB

720 degrees. Definitely one of my top games of all time, if not my single most important game.

Missile Command or Centipede. Probably a slight edge towards Missile Command.

Top of the line classic games as far as I'm concerned!

This Neck of Minnesota was pretty good for missing the boat on a lot of things. Hell, we didn't get cable TV at my mom's until 1994. I nearly missed the golden age of MTV, only really getting to see it once a week (or less) at my friend's house from 1986 on. The arcade games I played were mostly at bowling alleys and bars, and no way in hell were they springing for the latest and greatest color vector titles. The movie theatres we went to had some games (don't remember seeing a Star Wars), but I only saw them while in the ticket line. My mom wanted us to get our tickets, get our snacks and sit the hell down to wait for the movie to start.

Don't sweat it, I remember seeing and playing Star Wars even in the cockpit form, and it has never been on my want list. So it might not have done it for ya anyway.
