I don't mean most collectible, or the most expensive, or the one someone told you was the coolest, etc. I mean, which title do you own and LOVE to play repeatedly? Which one gives you 'that' feeling every time you fire it up? For me, there are 2 that really excite me.

1. Centipede
Yeah I know it's slower paced than Millipede and you can get one on any city's CL for about $300 or so, but to me, this is the Atari Title that really brings me back. I can play several games in a row and never get tired of it. Love the sounds, love the sights, love the game play. That opening 'doot doot doot' bass sound gets my heart rate up, and the spider's tingling theme music makes my skin crawl. Who doesn't have that 'Flea Falling' sound embedded in their brains?

2. Asteroids Deluxe
Now this title was actually new to me when I picked it up back in '06. I had always played Asteroids BITD, and don't think I ever played (or even saw) a Deluxe back then. Since I've owned it, it's one of the few titles that I will play at least one game of every time I see it turned on. The cabinet is great, the floating screen is genius, and the killer satellite amps up the danger level.

This is my current number 1, though Super Missile Attack is a close 2nd. Millipede is diminished by the advanced level start/continue features IMO.

Star Wars. Nothing quite like it. First of its kind for movie tie-in quality. The very first thing I'd ever do when walking into a new arcade when I was a kid, was scour the place looking for one. If the joint had one, then they had my respect and my quarters.

Never even saw one of these back in the day. Didn't know it existed until browsing KLOV back early 2006. If I had seen it as a kid, it may have been my favorite. Without the nostalgia tied to it, the game didn't do much for me. I owned a nice one and sold it after a year. Cool voices and sounds though. The Tie Fighter sound may be one of the greatest movie sounds ever produced.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I think a guy like you that appreciates the movies would have been every bit as excited to behold a freakin' cockpit SW back in the day. Nothing ever felt the same.

If we are going strictly by which one's we OWN, then my number one is Asteroids.
It takes me right back to walking home from junior high, stopping in the pizza place, buying a slice and a coke for $1.25 and $.75 change to play as long as I could. God, I used to see those damn asteroids in my sleep!
I also own Centipede. I HATED that game BITD (mostly because I sucked at it) but bought one to keep my wife happy (her favorite game). I have gotten much better at it and really enjoy the speed and strategy needed (still hate those f'ing spiders though).
My number one Atari of all-time is Star Wars, I will own one eventually.

yeah, but the upright is nowhere near as much fun to play as the cockpit. the cockpit makes you feel like you're in an x wing...

This Neck of Minnesota was pretty good for missing the boat on a lot of things. Hell, we didn't get cable TV at my mom's until 1994. I nearly missed the golden age of MTV, only really getting to see it once a week (or less) at my friend's house from 1986 on. The arcade games I played were mostly at bowling alleys and bars, and no way in hell were they springing for the latest and greatest color vector titles. The movie theatres we went to had some games (don't remember seeing a Star Wars), but I only saw them while in the ticket line. My mom wanted us to get our tickets, get our snacks and sit the hell down to wait for the movie to start.

1. Tempest- This game takes me back to the early days of arcades when the vector games were at their peak. I think everyone gets a little nervous when you complete a later stage and are about to go through because you want to make sure you don't hit a spike. The sounds and the simple yet brilliant color vector graphics are what make this my favorite.

2. Millipede- I have to go with the opposite of the Phetty one and say that at first I only like Centipede until this game won me over. All I played in the arcades was Centipede because Millipede would kill me in under a minute. Once I bought my Millipede and played both I find Centipede rather boring now.

Paperboy vs 720 depending on the day for my top pick. A tip of the hat to Star Wars, but it falls to 3rd on my list.

my vote is for CRYSTAL CASTLES....

amazing artwork, fun gameplay, really cool music and sounds, and a light up trackball for gods sake.

the game gets real difficult in the later levels too. def great replay value.

just one question..... what were the designers smokin when they made this game? a bear who collects gems, hangin out in a forest, traversing through various castles, escaping witches and walking trees. i like it!!!
