Favor to ask, part II

Well, I did get some measurements today, enough to start. Rlevin offered me a deal, but I can not afford it now. He gave me some measurements. I am going to attempt to save something and hopefully will be able to get it if he still has them. For now the construction begins, the rest of the measurements will be best guestimates and I will at least be able to get the basic form down and figure out the trim after that point. It may not be exactly correct, but it will be close.Unfortunately I don't make that much money so I will do the best that I can. Thanks for everyone's support.

Nathan

Good luck and when you get done send me some pic's I would like to see the finish product

Seriously, Nathan, just keep your eyes open, one will pop up cheap... Not trying to steal RLEVIN's sale or anything. (And if you get it from Dale, it will be in great shape, btw) Kudos to Dale for helping you with measurements too, that's uber-cool!

I'm gonna keep looking. I will be honest with you all and please don't take this wrong. I AM NOT looking for anything. I have spent eight years in the electrical trade, five of those years in the field. Three years working at an electrical sales counter. I have never made over $11.50 an hour. Period. My wife works as a teller, and also works her arse off. Between the two of us we make next to nothing. Our health insurance eats up a fourth of our income every year, add in my son's asthma meds and it all shoots out over $10,000 a year. I can't just plop down $500 just like that. I am sure some of you know the story. Two car payments. etc. I can build this as I go, peice it together correctly with the few measurements I have ( I couldn't expect Rlevin to measure everything it would take an hour). So I may be crazy for building this but I want this badly. For twenty five years I dreamed of having this. Just didn't seen practical cause I knew I would not be able to fix this and then MAME came along. I can at least spread the little bit of money I do have over a period of time and get it that way for now. Maybe later if we are all not living in caves by then. I wonder if I could get a cheap solar panel to run this when there is no electricity? LOL

message from starfleet command

I am currently doing a full tear down of my cockpit
I have started taking all the measurements with picutres
So help is on the way

Note dont bother looking for a manual on the sit down I have been looking for
ten years and have not found anyone with one ( upright converted/ dedicated yes)

But this is not a over night project I finished up the base for the chair side
A fellow klover had been offering new matting for out run and it was the
exact same used on the captains chair

I would think if you were looking on craigslist.org or posted a wanted ad there which I highly recommend you could find one in the $100 range not working. You just never know. I have gotten games for free and very cheap before so it's not like it can't ever happen.

That's a good point too. I did find out today that 3/4 plywood is only $15 a sheet so I'd only need a max of three sheets for the basic structure. Of course $100 for a Star Trek cab? Wow, that would be a miracle!

Trust us, no miracle... Lot of non-working games go for that. Or less. It's just a bit of an obscure game, that's working against ya...

did you ever try this thread

i understand you dont have a money tree.. and i do understand how rewarding it is to build something yourself.. BUT, if you have $100-$250 in parts (including monitor, boards controls and materials), PLUS you have 50-100 hours of labor (at $11.50/hr) thats an additional $575 - $1150 of your time..

if you just saved up.. Maybe instead of paying the $45 for the cockpit from RLEVIN, if you asked if you could put 10% down (would be $50), and make a monthly payment?

If it were just cutting out a new side to repair that would be different, but the captains chair looks to be challenging to fabricate..

Upstate New York is five to six hours away depending. But that is HavoK's area. I am suprised he doesn't look into that himself. Believe me if I could make the trip I would. I have an ailing mother that I am afraid to leave too long. I have put a want ad on CL. If it comes down to it, I may consider talking to Rlevin about a payment plan. I really don't think building it will be that bad.

Dude you are killing me, I tell you what if you just need a cab I have a empty one you can have for 200.00

WOW. Can you give me the shipping price? What hub would I have to pick it up? Delaware is easier on the shore unless there is one near Salisbury Md. Now I feel bad. Didn't mean to upset you. Might take me a week or two to come up with that. Deposit? Mommy...

No worries I can get it you for about 200.00 and I will hold it for you till you have the funds. Just stay in touch and do not do me like Stu did me.

Yeah dude , don't try and build it yourself , it would probably look so hideous and ghetto ......but then it would probably be a good laugh to see it .

seriously , buy a real Star Trek cab !!
