Fatherpain’s - Garcade - SoCal

YES!!! LETS GOOOOO!!!! Overtime Arcade Time Extended walk through video just dropped!!
Loved it. Charlie's videos are so well done. Was very humbled when @z0ner and @shawncruiksh informed me @CharlieG would be visiting SoCal and whether I'd be up for firing up the good old Garcade on a Monday.

The answer was heck yeah! Absolutely! Best of all, I had a vacation day already submitted so it worked out perfectly!

Was extremely impressed by CharlieG's interview and commentary skills. Our interaction for the episode was completely off the cuff and unscripted. Proudly displaying some Overtime Arcade swag on the treasured Ardac coin machine now as well :)

Walter Day has expressed he would like to set a 2026 return date to Time Extended to revive his annual card ceremony awards, so once the details are nailed down, hoping @CharlieG will be able to join us for another epic event and Overtime Arcade episode! :)

You were a natural on camera! And it's so kind of you to welcome in riff-raff like z0ner & Shawn!

Here's a short clip from this past Saturday. My wife Sara (not in the video) arranged a pumpkin patch carving event for our nieces (ages 8 and 5) and their 20 or so friends.

To my surprise, the girls wanted to hit Time Extended first and show their friends. Pumpkins became an afterthought…

Kicking myself as I thought I'd recorded the moment when the kiddos first entered. Their reactions were priceless and comical. Here's what I managed to grab after realizing the mistake of not correctly hitting record, smh. More kids arrived later. Still gotta go back to survey for damage and clear some stuck coin mechs, lol.

IMG_1456.jpegPumpkins eventually did get carved a couple hours later after parents made their kids leave the Garcade… which is cool as was feeling abit giddy…err guilty Time Extended one upped Sara's plans, 😂

We all need that coffee mug being most of us are probably 40 or older. CAFFEINE !!! For those OVERTIME hours we all put into this hobby. Could add some Kahlua if need be. LOL

Spending time in this hobby has imparted several lessons:
  • Impulse buying is hard to control, especially when good deals pop up.
  • As a consequence, Running out of space has always been a problem.
  • It's good to have understanding friends to help out. ;)
While the garcade is at max capacity…these (2) games are currently stashed at a good friend's house… Carnival, which I consider an underrated title…

And Battlezone. Regret parting ways with mine that was in great condition… this one seems a pretty nice replacement.

Last week @lgsteelers inquired whether I'd be interested in this nice Scramble from a friend.

IMG_9977.jpeg
Ivan knows Scramble has been on the want list for a long time.

Besides picking up and finding places for them, the bigger challenge will be explaining to the missus why (3) more games are being added… not sure she's accepting the excuse "these games were too cheap to pass up." This time, smh 🤦

Perfect for enjoying 15 oz. of WHATEVER beverage gets you through the day!

IMG_0242.jpegOuff…yesterday was beyond hectic. Borrowed my son's truck and smuggled Scramble in while Sara was at work.

Intended to install casters (Stern cabinets have recessed bottoms requiring 2x4's to be installed first btw) but Sara's bosses let her off early, so ran out of time.

Dunno how she knew…but she knew. I know for sure my son didn't stool pigeon me..🤦

Sara immediately stared at me and asked "What are you up to? I know you're up to something! What is IT?"

What the hell? She had me dead to rights and there's no way out…but I had to try playing dumb anyway…

Me: "Huh? Whussat? What are you talking about?"

Sara: "You know what I'm talking about…What is IT? Is it a ANOTHER game? You bought a game huh? YOU better tell me what IT IS!!"

Yeah she knew. Doggone it. So salvaged what I could:

"Okay, okay… Yes I bought a game. It's one I've been wanting for awhile and a friend sold it to me for $500, so there!" (It was really $900 with an extra working board,)

I'll spare the arguing that followed, sigh.

Granted this is probably the 60th game I've added incognito over the course of my collecting…but still. 😂

I may have to come clean with the Carnival and Battlezone that my buddy @TastyBoogerz is holding for me. ;)

Ouff, the garcade is down to fix this pesky rain intrusion issue that's wetting the carpet in the Atari section. Water is clearly entering here. No indication it's coming from up top.

IMG_0460.jpeg
Requested my brother in law to open this part of the wall to verify the same is true over here.

IMG_0468.jpeg
Fabian made quick work and only needed to open this small hole to determine it is dry.

IMG_0470.jpeg
Am convinced sealing the holy heck of this external seam where the wall hits the floor + any exposed concrete will finally resolve the issue and I can live again... This ugly red epoxy is what Fabian applied on the previous attempt… fortunately this is between houses so it's not overly noticeable.

Sorry man, water can be evil. I live on the side of a huge hill, and still there are a couple of vulnerabilities.

Could you put an elbow on that downspout and extend it out to the driveway or whatever is to the right? Having that downspout right there seems like asking for trouble on the other side of those walls.

Thank you Wade. Yes so frustrating…That may be our next step if sealing doesn't do the trick…

But it's a good amount of water. We have heavy rains passing thru SoCal, so was observing but couldn't identify an obvious culprit.

We are also on a hill with potential water running down the slope towards the left.

IMG_0474.jpegThe water leaking inside appears to originate just to the left of the red cinder blocks and just upstream of the spout, where the garage was extended and enclosed.

My brother in law just cleaned all the dirt, weeds and gunk away. I've asked him to apply that red sealant all along the seam, exposed concrete and blocks.

IMG_0475.jpegAlso going to seal the orange side cinder block seam just in case…

Can't fault my BIL as he didn't know and the black light in the garcade makes it difficult to see… but he is a rip and tear kind of guy and didn't realize there was a topper on Pole Position while moving it out of the way, so there is a little bit of ceiling patchwork and paint to do also… 😔

Just gotta take deep breaths and know it will be okay again soon. 😂
