Fast and Furious Drift in Cruis'n Cab shifter issue

I have searched for this issue and only found one other, very old, thread about it.

https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=247945&highlight=shifter+problem

Of course there is no answer. It is the exact same issue as mine except they had a Supercars kit instead. I purchased two Cruis'n USA cabs that had the Drift kit installed. The monitors were out so I had to repair them. Now everything works except the shifter. It works in test on both machines but when playing the game, the shifter does not have first and second gear and 3rd and 4th are reversed. Has anyone ever had this problem and what did you have to do to fix it. If not any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thank you,
Stephen

I wasnt aware of Super Cars kits...

What version software is in the games?

Have you checked the wiring at the shifter? Could be broken wires, off wires, reverse (3/4 gear) wired, there is a little bobby pin looking thing takes up some of the shifting force that tends to break inside the shifter.

I think it was F&F Super cars not just Supercars. I think that is two different games right?

The version that is on there is 1.14K.

Yeah the wiring seems fine, and like I said it works exactly right in diagnostics.

If I'm to understand the time line right, Raw Thrills lost the license to use Fast and Furious by the time Super Cars came out. There may have been a few Super Cars that went out with the F&F logo on them somewhere.

1.14k sounds like the F&F Drift kit software to me. I want to say they are up to 1.26k or maybe even higher? Might be worth making sure the dip switch settings are right on the I/O board and if that doesnt work update the games software.

You can find the drift conversion manual here. http://rawthrills.com/manuals/

Well, I upgraded the software to 1.26k this weekend and unfortunately, it made no difference with the shifter issue. I thought for sure that would have corrected it. Unless there is some kind of hotfix or patch for that, I am out of ideas.

thats really strange. Maybe make sure your dips are set to N/O switches?

lol. I had the same issue. I bought a FFD upright that was all jacked up from the previous owner, who didn't have a clue how the PC/watchdog logic worked. I got it up and running, and eventually found a cruizn sit down to put it in.

I wired the shifter, and it worked money in test mode, but was all F'd when you play the game. Luckily I took pics of original wiring, and wired it like the upright, and it was good to go. There's definitely something wacky with that shifter in FFD, but I couldn't tell you why.

You're in luck, as I just added an expansion to my arcade, and am going to pull FFD from my warehouse to the arcade Saturday morning. I'll take some pics of the shifter wiring for you, so you can wire it "correctly".

I F'd with that thing for about 2 hours one night out on the sidewalk in front of the arcade at 1:00am in the morning before I finally figured it out. The shifter from the upright was junk, and the cruizn shifter was super tight.

I also updated the software to whatever the newest version is. Bought the disks directly from Raw Thrills. Funny story about that, too. I was updating the computer with the disks, again, at 1:00am on the sidewalk outside the arcade. At the time, the arcade was in a rural area, so it was super quit outside. When disk one was done, that creepy computer voice from the installation disk started talking loud as hell. Saying something like "remove the disk and insert disk 2". The voice sounded like the computer from War Games. Scared the living $h1t out of me. I almost tripped over the chair I had out there when I jumped back. No way I was expecting it to start talking. Cracks me up thinking about it now.

That will be great! That will help me out tremendously. Me and my son got a huge kick out of the computer voice talking during the upgrade as well. The best part was when it told you disc 1 was done and please insert disc 2 and instead of beeping, the computer voice actually said "beep beep beep". It cracked us up.

Thank you,
Stephen

Hopefully you're using the same harness with same wire colors. Mine's in a Cruzn USA cab, with original Cruzin USA harness.

Well, good news and bad news. I change the wiring of one of the Drifts like the photos sirsalt posted and it worked perfectly. Then I did the other one the same way and it didn't work. It seemed to be acting the same as before. Although in test the switches seemed to be working in a normally closed manner instead of normally open like before. It did not seem to make any difference in gameplay though. I will tinker with it some more and see if I can get it sorted.

make sure the CalSpeed dip switch is off on the I/O board.

Sorry. I thought I had posted about this already. Yes, it is the weirdest thing. One of the cabs I rewired like the pictures you sent, worked like a charm, but the other one, that I wired exactly the same, did not. I have not really trouble shot it much because I have been working on other things. I will get back to it and see what I can figure out soon.

Thanks for your help!
